My friend's baby is almost two and now screeches very loudly whenever he wants something. It's very unnerving. He'll screech two or three tImes when I'm over there. Each screech lasts about a second or so. When I left my friend's house today, my tinnitus was out of control. Did this screeching baby permanently damage my ears?

In my opinion, the baby's screech probably caused a spike, but did not do any permanent damage. The next time you go to your friend's house, be sure to take some earplugs! If you feel self-conscious about putting in the earplugs, just explain to your friend that you have very sensitive ears.

Another thing you could try: A number of people on this forum have used N-Acetylcistene to protect their ears from further damage. You could try buying this supplement, to see if it works for you.

      Best wishes,
      Karen

Permanently? My guess is no. At worst, I assume the baby's cry caused a temporary spike in your tinnitus. I doubt the noise exposure was of the duration or volume to cause permanent damage. But shrieking babies are annoying when you have T.

I read that a screaming baby is 110 decibels! Sounds like a firing range.

No, the damage is already done. Your little screamer is just irritating it. This brings back memories of my little daughter in the early 80's who saw me make weird faces and turn my head when she screached.

How long did the irritations last for you? Hours? Days?

go buy some musician earplugs they're almost invisible and they cut down on the high frequencyannoyance of your T and you can hear with them and it cut down on the spikes

My 1 year old screeches at me all the time and I don't think he has caused anything permanently for me!

Is that what happens? I definitely have anxiety right now. But then again, I always have anxiety, and it doesn't seem to affect the tinnitus.

I've had tinnitus spikes before, but they usually only last a few hours, and I always sleep them off. This is the only time where the volume was the same when I woke up in the morning.
