      Hello Damocles
How did you reintroduce sound for and how long did it take, what did you do
      Thankyou

Eventually without even noticing I was studying with my window open next to me (of course shutting it quickly if a motorbike started up or a seagull started screeching...

Also I should mention, I would always keep a pair of Ear Defenders close to me around the place (I live in an apartment block and I never know when some idiot in one of the flats next door's fire alarms are going to go off, for example).

I still wear earplugs OUTSIDE (I live in London (you'd have to be mental as a T sufferer to walk around London without protection)), hence I hear my T all the time and am thus at harmony with it. I've never tried to escape my T, and I believe that forever listening to it (inside and out) is the reason why I can endure it with relative ease (until the day we get that BEAUTIFUL CURE!)

        Hope that helps.

      Hello,
      Thankyou for everyone’s replies
I really appreciate your perspectives…. On masking tinnitus etc…
And michaels literature has been extremely helpful….
I shall continue to mask and wear my plugs when things are to loud…..
I even wore plugs when working with a client the other day as I felt his voice was too loud ( I’m a psychotherapist) I seem to be a bit sensitive to some noises

      Thankyou

Hi @Eleanor89 Thank you for your kind comments. I am in the process of writing another piece on habituation that you might find helpful. It follows on from the post: The Habituation Process. Take care.

      Hello Damocles
I’ve read that listening to your tinnitus and relaxing with it helps habituation, as it teaches the brain not to fear it….
      Is this true

        Precisely what @Stacken77 said.

Same thing happened to me; crippling hyperacusis and reactive tinnitus off the back of lots of sound deprivation.

But even that has, mostly, left me now, after GRADUAL exposure to moderate noise over time.

At the end of the day @Eleanor89, do anything you want to help yourself cope with your T, sound enrichment vs no sound enrichment, neither one is going to hurt you; just don't go to noisy places, and if you have to go to noisy places, make sure you wear good hearing protection. That's the bottom line.

Just keep focusing on small goals and keep doing things you enjoy (like Kebab Pizzas! and Tinnitus Minecrafts!! XD) and you'll be alright.

I feel like we're not far off effective treatments now anyway, so at least you won't have to endure this complete nonsense as long as I have! XD

Dang @Damocles, you've really been exactly where I'm at and made such a fantastic recovery, it's just amazing to hear.

Yeah man, right now I'm basically working and binge watching movies till night(and playing some Minecraft), it gives some happiness in the trying times. I'll definitely get some more kebab on Friday, I usually order food on Fridays cause this man's too lazy to stir the pots. xD

Thank you but I’ve given up.. if you’re sensitive to noise I think it would be a good idea to not get caught off guard amongst roads or houses.. That’s just like using a hammer by yourself without protection..

But I hate plugs., I prefer to avoid places where I don’t need protection..Many people improving use earplugs so I don’t think it can harm us.

Sometimes I’m not so sure. But I know I’m not going to leave this world without a fight. It’s hard sometimes, but we must carry on. My H has been pretty shit since this cold I have. Today a piece of paper swiped across a cutting mat, and it made my ears hurt/burn. Urgh! These conditions are fucking awful!! Massive hugs xoxox

@Exit , that does sound like reactive tinnitus. There is a chance that it can become stable. I had one for a very long time (5/6 months or so) until it didn't react to external noise anymore. BTW, Have you also asked the audiologist to play with fluctuating frequency tones instead of pure tones?

It is maybe easier that way to discern what kind of frequencies you can hear, aside from your own tinnitus. Aside from all of this, I think there's a chance that bimodal stimulation might give you some relief. I remember the story of kelpiemsp, who

mentioned on TT that his multi tonal tinnitus, which he had for more than 30 years, had diminished significantly thanks to the Minnesota device. And the same thing can be applied to Linearb, who had the same experience with Susan Shore's Denovo. So there's still enough to hope for, don't you agree?
