About
My T started whilst being treated with Antibiotics for a common cold over 20 years ago. It was frightening at the time but with support from Audiology and through my own research I soon became used to the new "friend" in my head. In the early years I was only ever aware of it when in a completely silent environment so the impact of the constant level tone hum was very small indeed.
Roll forward by about 10 years into my T and the volume had grown such that I could hear it above normal background noise, but again I just got on with life and tried to ignore the hum.
Looking back to 2013 I had been fortunate enough to reach the position of no longer having to work and retired happily. Initially my T seemed to actually improve but this was the calm before the storm. Following a holiday to Bermuda I experienced a severe spike in my T and became very low indeed. I ended up at the GP and he identified a fair amount of ear wax had build up. However when this was removed the spike remained. The GP also arranged for an MRI of the inner ear and drum but this gave a normal result. Anti depressants were prescribed but never taken as the side effects scared the crap out of me.
I have spent the last 3 months pulling myself out of the black hole and getting back to a more normal pattern of life. Classical music has been my savior at bedtime. I have dramatically reduced all stimulants including tea, coffee, alcohol, and tobacco. I have been visiting a spiritual healer which has helped me feel stronger to cope with the new volume. Currently I have good days and bad and am getting used to my new normal.
I have found this website to be a positive influence.Interact
