About
Suffered this irritating affliction for 6 months now, only the last two months has it really affected my sleep. When I first noticed it was back in November 2013 trying to get off to sleep,I heard this low frequency humming, which I initially thought was the refridgerator downstairs.Soon determined it was my right ear that was the cause, but was still able to sleep normally. The tinnitus was not noticeable during the day with background noise, only when I was in a quite room or at night in bed did it become noticeable.Even then it fluctuated in volume between barely noticeable to a slight hum.Since then, things have deteriorated over these last two months,as the tinnitus has become louder and constant, but still a muffled low frequency hum.Unable to sleep without sleeping tablets, thats how bad it has become.I'm probably the worst type of person this tinnitus can affect as I need silence to get off to sleep.Recently seen an ENT specialist who carried out hearing tests, which revealed no deterioration in my hearing from when I last had a hearing test in 2005,except a little reduction in the high end frequencies in my non-tinnitus ear.Awaiting now to have an MRI scan to check for any physical signs causing the problem and an appointment with the tinnitus clinic at my local hospital. In the meantime I have found some relief wearing a mini hearing aid, set to low volume that produces just enough white noise(like a shooshing ) to mask the tinnitus.Sometimes the tinnitus gets too loud and the masking noise has to be set louder, which defeats the object,as that becomes just as annoying.Never had such a more annoying condition than this in all my life, just hope it goes away.I have spoken to other people who have experienced this condition, its amazing how common it is,some said that it just disappeared in time, while most said that they have learned to live with it.But most cases they can account for what caused their tinnitus, often listening to loud music, but in my case that isn't so,which makes my condition more puzzling.Interact
