    Tinnitus Since:
hyperacusis 17/11/2004, tinnitus since date but unrecognised until diagnosed 7/14
    Cause of Tinnitus:
acoustic shock - due to call centre work
    Hi,

I've worked in Customer Service roles involving phone work since 1994. I graduated into Call Centre work in 1996 and loved it.

I changed employers in 2003 to my last employer and worked in their Call Centre.

In my last employer's Call Centre we experienced many staff have "acoustic shocks" or "acoustic injuries" many suffered hearing loss. I'd never experienced anything like this until working for my last employer.

I learned I'd never experienced "acoustic shock" until this employer as my previous employer used sound shields.

With my last employer, my four acoustic shock in 18months resulted in a diagnosis of hyperacusis, which is retraumatised with exposure to loud noises - building works, trucks, trains, buses.

To date, I have also been confirmed as suffering tinnitus and this affects my sleep significantly, is with me most days, particularly if I am stressed.

I am trying to locate in the Sydney region an ENT with a bent for hyperacusis who can help me with some treatment to help me live a better, or even more comfortable life.
