I am 48 yo, I noticed ringing in my ears recently after listening mostly to educational/instructional e-courses online with in-ear apple headphones. I have the ringing mostly in my left ear, I would rarely wear the ear buds in both ears at the same time as this was bothering my ears, so this is why I think the ringing is asymmetric right now. I switched recently to noise-cancelling headphones as I was interested in the benefits of wearing over-the-ear headphones and not the in-ear type. To my surprise, possibly due to the noise cancelling effect of the new headphones, I got a bout of rather loud ringing, or maybe I was made very aware of the ringing due to the external sound deadening effect of the headphones. The strange thing was that I thought tinnitus was about hearing loss, which I guess it is, but I can hear every annoying little thing at the office, in fact, my hearing seems to be extra sensitive, I cover my ears when the ambulance comes down the street and it's almost painful if I don't get my hands up quick enough to cover my ears. Based on reading the entries in the forum, I have decided to take an extended break from headphones, possibly never to use them again... the strange thing was that I was listening to voice-type e-courses, podcasts, etc. I thought that, since I was not a teenager blasting music all day, I wouldn't get any damaging effects. Obviously not the case. This is very disappointing as I was benefiting from taking e-courses and figured I could do so, even in coffee shops, but now it is definitely not going to work for me to do that. I do have situations where I can play the sound for my courses through the speakers on my laptop, I guess I will need to do that instead. I do intermittent fasting and focus on a low-carb diet that is as close to keto as possible, having read some of the forums about IF and its ability to assist with tinnitus, I am hopeful that any healing I will go through will be assisted by these aspects of my life. I also take a daily supplement of tumeric curcumin, and that has helped me with inflammation issues elsewhere in my joints/ muscle hypertrophy, etc.
