Without going into huge detail.. Basically ive had mild Tinnitus for 9 months now as a result of noise exposure...
Anyway luckily I can safely say it doesn't really affect me and I can only notice it in quiet environments..
But for the past few months I get random spikes and the sound greatly increases to near deafening levels and my ears become all muffled and I can't really hear much. However I don't worry about it because in the 10+ times it happened it's only lasted for about 30 seconds so I just accept it and wait for it to pass...
Just out of curiosity im wondering if anyone else gets these and if possible why they might be happening?

I believe this is called "fleeting tinnitus" I also get this quite frequently, but as you say, it passes within 30 seconds so is no longer a worry. As far as I'm aware, this is normal.

Yeah it literally happens once every few weeks so it doesn't bother me that much

Does it feel as if something pops/twinges or something then instantly the noise appears? As that's what mine does!

Yeah spot on that's exactly what happens.. Like I'm watching TV and all of a sudden I'll just get a random increase in the tinnitus sound which at first obviously panicked me but now I just wait for it to pass and forget about it

      Hey Luke

I was about to start a thread about this. I'm in exactly the same
Boat as you with regards to my tinnitus history.

I wondered why I get the spikes.... It's like my ear zones out to all other noise and just picks up this spike and then nuggets off, happens abou once a month occasionally more.

Glad to see it seems to be normal!

I used to get these even when I didn't have tinnitus.
