      Cause of Tinnitus:
Unknown-woke up one day with it
My t started in late September 2014. I woke up from a nice Sunday nap with the incredibly loud t in my left ear. I did the whole ENT, prednisone, hearing test etc. Hearing test did show loss in the 3,500-5,000hz range, just in the left ear. The t became much more mild and I felt like I could mostly ignore it during the day. This past Sunday it all of the sudden spiked to the point that I couldn't hear anything out of that ear but the t. I took a Gabapentin, which my Mom takes regularly, though I don't know if that actually did anything. The spike eventually calmed down about 5 hours later and back to baseline by Monday morning. Yesterday was a good day, t still there but I was mostly able to ignore it. Now about 30 minutes ago I'm sitting at my desk in my office and bam another huge spike. Maybe 90% of the amount as Sunday, but so incredibly loud right now. I took another Gabapentin but not sure what I should do.

Does anyone have experience with these kinds of random spikes. My t was not noice induced or anything. The spikes both have happened just sitting at my desk. No loud noises or anything. I'm at a loss for what to do. It is hard to function and complete my job with the incredibly loud t. Sunday I just went to bed and watched a movie to try and distract my mind. Can't really do that today on a work day.

I've been following every post in the Potiga/Trobalt thread and got my ENT to give me a prescription for it. I haven't filled it yet because it would cost me about $1,000 to get enough to do a proper 2 month trial of the drug. I may have to just go through with it and bite the bullet to attempt the drug.

Any advice out there on handling these types of spikes?
