Terrified Hearing Aid Feedback Makes Tinnitus Worse

When I take out my hearing aids, it always does a feedback sound in my ear.

Could that make my tinnitus worse? I always get anxiety to take them out because I feel like damage is happening and I fear it is making my tinnitus worse.

I have the smallest hearing aids (the ones that go in the ear, size of a bean).

 

@Striveon, an experienced audiologist would adjust the feedback. You also may not be wearing the correct type of hearing aid for your particular type of tinnitus. Do you go every 2 weeks or so to have your hearing aids adjusted? Our hearing & tinnitus changes, so our hearing aids need adjustments to match the changes. I’m 10 years in & just recently found out I was wearing the incorrect type of hearing aids. Now I’m so much better with bi-cross hearing aids. The tinnitus has receded to the background & I hardly notice it.

 

When I take out my hearing aids, the hearing aid gives a feedback sound and that feedback sound always terrifies me as I'm afraid it will make tinnitus worse. I think of it as an earphone with music affecting tinnitus since it is inside the ear.

What do you think? I have been using hearing aids even before I had tinnitus, so I go based off my hearing loss.

When you take your hearing aids out, do you hear your tinnitus loudly or is it still low?

 

Anyone? Experiences with taking out their hearing aids and causing a feedback sound? Does it worsen your tinnitus??

 

@Striveon. No. The answer is no.

You should not be hearing a feedback noise. Sometimes, if your aides are outside your ears, charged or have charged batteries in and you put them together by mistake, you will hear a feedback noise. If I were you, I’d have them checked and adjusted.

 

These are the ones I use. Do you see the clear stick hanging out? When I grab on the stick to pull it out, it does a feedback sound. That is what I am always terrified of, the feedback making my tinnitus worse.

What hearing do you use and has the feedback ever made your tinnitus worse?

 

@Striveon, No, I don’t get any feedback.
I have hearing loss in one ear with one sided tinnitus. I use Phonak Audeo M hearing aids. They are helping me tremendously.

 

Do you use masking?

 

@Striveon, Yes; but it works differently than traditional masking. Google the aides I’m using. It would help answer your questions.

I have Endolymphatic Hydrops. It’s a one-sided hearing loss condition with Tinnitus, fullness & balance issues. It’s been unrelenting for over 10 years. These aides are the only thing that has even remotely helped in all those years. Look it up. It might help; I can’t say for sure for your particular situation. I do know that in the USA, the more ethical audiologists give a 30-60 money back warranty. Get evaluated & see. All the best!

 

I have behind the ear aids and sometimes when I remove them I get feedback but it doesn't affect the tinnitus as it is a quick screech and the aids are out. I've been back for adjustment 4 times and it makes a big difference. You may need new advanced aids

 

Do you think since my hearing aid is inside my ear, and the feedback happens in my ear, it affects tinnitus?

 

The feedback happens in my ear too. It hasn't hurt or made the T worse.

Thank you for you message via PM. I do not wear hearing aids and therefore unable to help. I think the advice and information @Quiet please has given you is excellent and advise you to follow it. You need to discus this with your Audiologist.
