It's probably getting louder because you're focusing on it. Enrich your environment with alternate sounds. Always have either the music, the tv, or mp3 player on. If all that noise gets too much listen to white noise. Never let yourself be alone in the silence. It will only be anxiety provoking!

Thanks @Neenie. I feel I'm back in the cycle of hearing it, getting upset, stressing the hearing it more. Just such a hard cycle to break.

Beach sound lovely but unfortunately I'm no where near one. Taking the kids outside might have to suffice tonight...

I get like that too dude. Like multiple times every day and some days just can't get out of the cycle. I havn't learnt much but I have learn from personal experience that I feel bad when I focus on it and when I worry about it. Surround yourself with normal people with whom you have normal conversations with. It distracts the mind away. The way I figure is if you hide yourself away you will get further and further into your anxiety provoking habits. Call a friend. Talk about something else. Focus on the conversation and even though your mind is full of "omg, my tinnitus is so loud", push it away and think of something else. Watch a movie, and actually watch it. Listen to music and actually listen. Don't get stuck in your world. I know how it is. I get stuck in my head. Even when I'm surrounded with people somehow I'm all alone. Try hard to not have that happen to you!

I'm trying. Just sad that life used to be so effortless and now the T is something I'm always trying to distract myself from.

I try distraction as well but from what I've read this is also not helpful. What you are meant to do is accept it, and then go about your day as if it weren't there. Trying to distract your mind away still means you are focusing on it. The brain is unable to perform two tasks simultaneously...or something like that...but so if you are focusing 100% on something else you wont be focusing on your tinnitus. And then I say "but I cant focus on something else!" Which is fine. It may not be completely possible to focus on one thing, but if you focus, lets say 70% on what is on TV, that means tinnitus is only 30% which is better than 100%. But again. Focusing AWAY from the tinnitus wont help. Focusing ON something else will.
