Unfortunately my ear situation has worsened after an acoustic incident in January 2019 and need some advice until I can seek professional help when I return to the UK in under three weeks.

I have developed a new mild beep in my ringing tinnitus ear and it is reacting (I know that the term 'reactive tinnitus' is argued with the ear community) with some everyday sounds. Even in the shower. My original ringing tinnitus has not been affected by the recent noise incident.
This is a new experience for me and wondered if anyone has successfully habituated to this kind of ear noise or anyone has experienced this after noise exposure and it faded in time?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

      Hello Jenny,

I have had reactive T like that over the last couple of years. What I found what worked best for me was staying calm, trying to relax, and keeping my auditory environment filled with sound (white noises, listening to podcasts), and trying to get as close to 8 hours of sleep as I could.

It always passed within a couple of days to a week.

      Hi @kmohoruk
Thank you for the advice and quick reply! :)
I am trying to remain calm and I am lucky that I have been getting sleep.
Sadly this reactive sound has persisted for close to four weeks. I wish it had passed as you have experienced within a few days to a week.
I will try to find a suitable sound to sleep with tonight.

      No worries Jenny!

One other thing that I can think of, is it could be hanging around due to stress or anxiety - if you’re going through that right now.

I remember when it popped up with me, it was during a time of intense stress during school, and I noticed the reactive ring when I was showering. It took a couple of weeks...and after exams ended, but it eventually went away.

I have the same thing, whenever my fan is on, a fridge, the TV, or even rain, I hear some strange whistle playing over it, this sound will only go away when I'm in complete silence or the trigger sound stops.

It keeps playing a strange fluttering high pitch whistle sound over anything that would normally mask the T. Has this eased off for you at all?

Hello Nathan, for me started this whistling sound as well (Fan, frigde, rain, but worst on the streets, where traffic noises are high) I still have hope, that this will decrease, it is easier to deal with tinnitus, then with this distant whistling sound

Nathan, I get exactly what you describe. A high pitched tone/whistle when it rains, when i turn on the air cond or a fan.

I am curious, do you have constant tinnitus happening too? like a continual noise in one or both ears, or your head?

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I haven't been online in a while. But to answer your question, yes, my tinnitus is very much constant, and very loud, almost impossible to mask even, but I suppose I'm dealing with it relatively okay.

How are you doing Nathan? I am 2 weeks into unmaskable hissing tinnitus and having a tough time.
