Hi all, I am so glad to find this support forum. My name is Jim and I am in my late 30's. I can't remember not having tinnitus. At least since my early adolescence, perhaps earlier.

For me it manifests as a sound like a high-pitched cicada or high-voltage hum. It is equal in both ears evenly. The kicker is it does not affect my hearing. I got a hearing test a few years ago after visiting an ENT doc about sinus issues. He happened to have an audiologist in his office and had me take a hearing screening. I passed with flying colors. I am also learning to play the cello and my instructor tells me I have a good ear, better than his sometimes.

I have learned to ignore the ringing. When I think about it, like now, it drives me crazy. I haven't read through many threads on this forum yet but it is great to know I am not alone. The little bit of research that I have done into this led me down a dead end when having no hearing loss with this condition is not fixable.

Thanks again for this forum and I look forward to getting to know and supporting one another.

      Hi jim,

yes this really is one of the best forums! so much useful information and people who are willing to help and share their experiences :) you are definitely not alone! I only woke up with tinnitus 4 years ago and now it has increased in volume recently. My hearing is also fine, which is frustrating since you just wish you could explain this noise somehow... Great o hear you are able to play and learn an instrument :) although I guess like everyone on this forum will tell you - careful with your hearing! Do you have trouble with sleeping sometimes? How do you deal with it when it starts to bother you?

      Best,

      Cass
