Hi there. I started having T about 4 months ago after having an inner ear infection in both ears. (My hearing is fine, a T specialist tested it). At first I was incredibly depressed but after a few weeks of huge stress and worry, the T diminished so much I almost forgot I had it. For 2 whole months, I coped so well. It's was almost like I'd been cured. But since Friday it's been back with a vengeance especially in my left ear. Had a terrible night's sleep and now I'm incredibly down again. Is this spike a temporary thing do you think? Or maybe I have another infection? My right ear has been a little sore this past week. Please, does anyone have any advice? It's now so bad I can hear it in the daytime - it's a piercing tone, so low it's almost hard to hear but it's definitely there, like a cricket screeching away. I feel hopeless, like I've fallen back into the hole I'd almost climbed out of. Can't see how I'll cope with it like this. I'm in my final year of university too - I can't let it pull me down academically after all the work I've put in.

Ben this can go either way, do not sit and wait for it to settle just try to go on with your daily activities (With masking noises!)

Ben, have you seen an ENT?
It may be something simple - you mentioned ear pain.
With final year exams etc you are under stress.
Take a big breathe and as Ty said, get on with it as that will take your mind off it.
Don't stress about what might happen in the future as it may never happen.

Unfortunately I'm in the same position, got mild tinnitus, 15 months ago, habituated, doing great for 9 months. But I slammed a car bonnet 5 weeks ago and now it is a very high hissing noise I can hear over the tv, bedtime sleeping is now impossible without drinking alcohol. I so hope it will go back to baseline, but it is going on 5 weeks and I'm totally miserable that this might be permanent.

You said the T spiked after a bad night's sleep. From experience I can tell you sleep is super important to control T. Take sleeping pills if you have to, but make sure you get 8 hours every night.

This is an old thread. So the OP may not be posting actively any more. You may want to tag him with an @ before the poster name so there is an alert for him. But if he is not reading the forum anymore, than you may want to start a conversation with him so he gets a email notice about that.

Why are you afraid of this? Has anything happened to make you believe that you can't live like this or that somehow T is going to destroy you? So far I think you've proven that you are stronger than the T and have managed super well! Give yourself credit for what you've done so far. You deserve a pat on the back for getting this far and coping so magnificently!

8 hours every night are you joking. I never got 8 before I had T, then I got T but could still sleep, now Im in a T and H collapse and menopause and I wake every hour. Guess what there is nothing I can but wait.
