      Mjallo people!
Since the onset of t I'm sure others have this specific date in mind. Fireworks have never been my thing and I live next to a ghetto-like village where firework lovers nest.
As I walk my dog on this time a year I find myself to be super afraid of future firecrackers, heck even when I stay inside my house there's always a little fear of them, that being prior to the onset too.
Which sufficient and perhaps overkill of precautions can one take to these things, and that one special night? I'd like your thoughts on that!:)
I'm contemplating wearing earplugs plus these badboys http://www.multikoeb.dk/images/thumbnails/310x270/FFFFFF/images/hp59792k.jpg

And ofc, how do you all plan to spend your new years eve?
*May tinnitustalk have less growth this year* = )

i'll certainly go to a restaurant with some friends, i already experienced fireworks for 3 minutes few days ago, didn"t affect my ears at all but i'll be wearing ear plugs while the show is going on for christmas that's for sure(usually 15 minutes around the lake in here)!

Then i guess i"ll spend it in the club area but 90% outside the clubs(a lot of people will be in the streets to party).

Oh btw, i'll be contemplating from outside people damaging their ears while being totally powerless.

That's gonna be the hard part, knowing what they don't know.....

I would like to go to some bar on New Years eve, but I guess I will leave quite early when noise levels aren't that high yet. And yes, I will be take my 25db earplugs with me. I don't think I will be following the fireworks outside, too noisy and also probably too cold.

On the other hand I did enjoy watching fireworks some days ago. There was a really nice fireworks show for the Finnish independence day in the city centre. I watched it from my home (about 2km away) and it wasn't that noisy any more and I could still see everything :)

I recently went to a rock concert (Brand New) and sported 33 db reduction foam plugs plus a pair of those bad boy muffs you've linked above. A few people pointed and had a laugh at my expense but HEY, that means nothing in the long haul of life and longevity of healthy ears. If you'll be really close to the origin of the fireworks protection is probably a good idea but if you are far away I would not be too worried, my guess would be plugs would be enough….but we are all different.

I work during the day on the 31st, and usually too tired to make it to midnight. My husband and kids would stay up to watch the ball drop on TV and then go to bed. ...and the H is new this year. Just never been that into New Years Eve parties... too much drinking and driving going on that night. I only party when I am staying at the place I'm partying.

I'm lucky enough to go to a Hotel party, with date. Two rooms to sub-ject my ears too:
One- Live Band big room. Second- younger crowd with DJ in bar area.
I think the DJ bar area may actually be louder. Your closer to the speakers.
We can sit farther back in the big room. I'm stupid enough to forget to ear plugs, This time i'm not forgetting!

Drinking a little seems to help the T, but the next day I pay for it, if I drink a lot.
If it seems loud --- I'm putting in the ear plugs.
I'll feel funny doing this, because its not something I usually do.

No fireworks for me (those boom loud), just popping Balloons.
Happy Holidays to all and Happy New year too.

Will just stay at home and watch tv, and think about how lucky I was last New Year's Eve, without T.

I want to do something special this holiday season, so it doesn't go down in history as the suckiest one yet. Whatever it is, I don't want it to involve "tolerating"... I want it to be enjoyable and memorable. any ideas? My birthday is friday, then Christmas, then New Year's. Right at this moment, I am not looking forward to any of them. (and I love birthdays... even in my late 40's!)

      I'm drawing a blank.

Aww Sherri, thinking like that is quite a bad start to an entire new year. We all feel it, but atleast try to find someone to share that awesome tellytime with :) Just because we cant go out and blow off fireworks or do what we used to we still have a choice of filling our lives with perhaps lesser, but positive tings :)

@Riikka That sounds really nice =) and ok, then you miss out on everyone becoming drunk idiots :p damnit!
viewing that from home doesnt honestly sound like any loss ;) I'm envious!

@Max People will be running around drunk and then you'll be the one looking 'weird'?:p
Unless some people are bastards to mock, there's something troubling wrong with Them! Apart from that people laughing is a pretty alright problem ;) Our house is right next to a little square where fireworks will be blown off from all sides and our house has very thin walls so I might still wear them badboys.

@James If you do like having a drink you might as well do it this once a year ;)
As its something you dont usually do, feeling funny about it is a good sign ;p Surely only intense balloon popping that eve, in spite of no fireworks it seems like its clearly possible to still have a great night.

@SueR If new years eve and christmas is to be rushed through, a worthy birthday celebration it is then! :)
It doesnt have to be something huge, nor very long if you can't :) perhaps something like a closed celebration with your closest? Dinner, who knows. If you could find something, even a little way to celebrate and turn it into something good, that would be a major success yeah :)

I like your upbeat msg, @Tenna . Unfortunately, I don't see any of those things happening. I'll have to think about it. I'd love to do something with my boys, but being 18yo, they aren't into the serene scene! lol

Ill celebrate with my family. But I plan to see the fireworks as well, perhaps if im not to embarrassed with my earmuffs, and also join a party and a 6 hour concert after that. Defiantly have to wear earplugs and earmuffs most of the time.

I have my plans set for New Year's and for some reason I just realized it going to be LOUD. I'm not sure how to best protect my ears. I'm thinking of foam ear plugs and a knit cap or two to help block out more sound. I truly would be happy to just stay home, but my kids want to go out.

How are you ringing in the New Year?

A doctor friend of mine, who loves music, asked me what it feels like to play music. I told him it's like an out of body thing, magical, all that stuff.. etc.. He said he wondered because in medical school he saw scans and saw blood flow patterns that were anything but typical as in everyday activity. He loved music but didn't play. He said I was lucky. When you think about tinnitus, think about this blood flow and getting lost in something creative. There are many activities that are good distractions from tinnitus, but it sounds like when you're doing something creative it's an extra good punch.

Heya! Go out, have fun for a while and don't think about tinnitus! Try not to monitor the sound level too much where you are, just forget about it and enjoy yourself! I'm going to bed at 8pm, I actually can't wait!

      Aahh...new years eve....the one time of the year I can get drunk.....wait a minute that's not right?..Lol.

This spike since October drove me to the drink...getting drunk every night, with only a few days off since then. Lucky I am getting used to this increase so I don't need it anymore, just force of habit now because of Christmas and new year celebrations, last time drinking tonight then I'm on the wagon for 6 plus months, best give my liver a well deserved rest! Let's hope 2014 is a lot better.

Thanks tenna, I know I will feel even better once I've dumped the drink, just like when I had quit smoking, a new lease of life, something to look forward too! I hate fireworks as well, I think you will be okay indoors, but if it does feel to loud earplugs are your saviour. Happy new year!

Interesting that you say this. I'm a photographer and when I'm doing my work, even in the very early stages of T, it was nearly blocked out by my focus on subject, lighting, composition, camera settings...
