Ear Pain

another quick question. i have noticed a fortnight after being exposed to a sudden loud door bang (audio unchanged) pain that is intermittent in my left ear. Dont think i have an ear infection, and im thinking its probably tttts? i notice that when i treat it in the same way as i treat my t these days (ignore it) i am largely unaware so i am hoping this is all it is and it will resolve with time?

 

Its possible the loud noise damaged your inner hair cells? I'm not an expert.. but an Audiologist would need to do a DPOAE test to measure your hair cells.

 

I had an audiogram on the day that showed no further changes

 

An audiogram will just tell you if you have hearing loss between 0 and 8000hz. It won't give anymore information beyond that.

It could be TTTS. Sounds like mine. If it is TTTS then overtime it should resolve as your attitude changes towards the tinnitus and you expose yourself to normal day-to-day nosies. If it doesn't then it could be something else.

I am at the 4 month point now since my acoustic event and I am still experiencing pain. It was bad at first. It still bothers me now. There have been moments, days even where I haven't had a problem and then lately it has come back. Things like this just take time!

 

I'm at my 14th month, and like you Mark, I have days where it just isn't a problem, though the tinnitus itself never goes. It does decrease in volume though on those days however, but then it all comes roaring back after one or two days, stays for about three days then recedes again and the cycle more or less repeats give or take (mostly take) a day. It's very hard to think of it as an "attitude" thing when there is so little consistency to work with, and I've given up on TRT as I don't see how this thing called "habituation" (code for shut up and get used to it?) can occur with such an inconsistent pattern. To me it makes as much sense as using a TENS machine to manage a broken bone.

 

Update: my left sided ear pain has resolved following replacement of a ceramic filling.

Maybe passed from anesthetic ?
