So its been more than 8 months since the dreaded day now and I am coping better with regards to T. But one thing that worries me is hyperacusis. What should I expect of it ? Does it get better with time ?

It seems better than before but it's always there even if its at its lowest . randomly it could get worse but overall its better. What should my approach be to make it go away or at least make it negligible? I have read a couple of posts in the past stating that it almost always goes away for many in a year or so. Is it true ?

I know trt can help but I want to make it better using day to day strategies like not overprotecting my ears or exposing myself to Loud sounds to desensitize my ears or something like that ?

Please share your progress with regards to H and what all things you did to help this problem. Any other idea is appreciated.

I was told not to overplug in all day situations, go outside and to sing along songs.
Didn't do the pink noise yet. But I'm new here. Have 3 months of H.

I use a pink noise cd I got from the H network, but to be honest the best thing for me was just not overprotecting and also letting my ears get exposed to normal environmental sounds, not loud sounds just everyday outside sounds. In the beginning I would go to work and just come home and that's all, that didn't help. When I started just going out to walk to the store or just walk around the neighborhood I noticed a good improvement. I live in NYC so I have to be careful as at any given time there is an A-hole leaning on his horn, ambulance, car alarm or some other loud sounds, so do your best to be ready to protect against those. As you mentioned H is also random for me as it feels like it's getting better and then goes back for a few days. So I just keep letting myself get exposed to environmental sounds and I'm noticing the streak of good days is getting longer and longer so hopefully that means I'll get past this H.

I tried the pink and rain CD from the H network. It sometimes is effective others not. Last night we had helicopters fly above until midnight; not a good night.

Yeah, it gets better. Also if you find yourself reacting to the sound before it even happens or perhaps even thinking about it then you probably have an anxiety related issue.

My H flairs up and gets a lot worse when I expose myself to noise. Seems to tone down a bit if I am really diligent in protecting my ears for a week or so. Also if I can sleep with no masking, this helps a lot too.
