Suffered from tinnitus in both ears for over 10 years. Today the tinnitus in my left ear shot off the scale. Mid morning after a walk along a beach it became at least five times louder than normal.

It's now extremely distracting and very worrying if it stays like this.

My wife offered a theory as to why this could have happened.
Yesterday (and again 2 days earlier) her rape alarm she uses when walking the dogs went off by accident when her key that it was attached to became detached. I was close by at home and the shrill streaking noise was deafening us for up to 20 seconds until I could disable the damn thing.

Anyone think this sudden ‘alarm shock’ could be the cause? There was a 24 hour delay before it started so I’m hopeful it’s not.

      Thanks for reading,
      Chris

I’d say it’s possible, though we can’t know for sure if this was the reason for your tinnitus worsening. However, there are many stories of people having delayed reactions to loud sound exposure.

I think it could definitely be the cause, I had an exposure to a fire alarm for a few min about 2.5 months ago and it fucked me up for quite awhile. It also didn’t start really setting in until about day 2.

I’m still not back to pre-alarm baseline but I’m doing a lot, lot lot better. You weren’t exposed for very long, just protect your ears really well for awhile, and it should definitely go down. Try to stay as calm as you can too, that’ll help you in the long run.
