Permanent or Temporary Tinnitus?

I've had noise induced tinnitus for around 7 days now after visiting a venue with very loud music.

-I've probably got no real impactful hearing loss
-Sounds like white noise with an occasional 18khz tone


Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate on how my chances are on this being temporary?

 

If it doesn't subsided within a few weeks that's the message that it's sadly permanent. As Karen said go to an ENT and get some steroids, really you should've done this within 48 hours. Still worth a shot...Anyway, do you have hyperacusis alongside it? Like does noises hurt?

 

I don't think I have hyperacusis. I actually read in some topic on this forum that there the time based steroids are actually a myth, same goes within a certain time limit.

What's the use of going to an ENT?

 

Well, still best to go there as soon as possible. Is yours mild?

 

It switches between not noticeable to noticeable in a crowd of people. And at night it gets worse.

I think I had exceptional hearing before this incident, could almost hear a needle falling in the other side of the room.

 

My advice is go and see a doctor and get some steroids as soon as possible and get some NAC. If it gets worse consider other treatment options, there's a ton of information on the treatment section. Anyway, good luck mate.

 

I just read that NAC is a precursor to the glutathione neurotransmitter, glutathione can be sourced from real foods which I already consume plentyful.

"The main ones in the diet are garlic, onions and the cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage, cauliflower, watercress, etc)."

 

It's all about the concentration. How do you know if you're getting 500mg or 1000mg of NAC in your diet? I sure as hell don't get 300% of magnesium in my diet but I supplement it. It's entirely up to you how you wanna go about this but I'd take the easiest route personally.

 

It's been another week and thought i'd update this thread.

Instead of hearing it for 90% of the time it's silent for 90% of the time, and the volume decreased greatly. I actually see tinnitus as a good thing, it helped me appreciate being healthy.

I'm not sure if it helped but these are some of the things I did while recovering from noise induced tinnitus:

You are very lucky indeed. I would give up everything I own, to only hear my T 10% of the time and at a reasonable volume!

Now that you know what mild T Sounds like and could sound like forever, protect your hearing at any expense. If you could hear the high pitched screaming, I have to endure 100% of my waking day, you'd understand, T is nothing to mess with, or ever want permantly in your life. It's a life altering condition.

Btw, Prednisone is the steroid issued by ENT's, within the first weeks of sudden, sensorineural hearing loss.
