Reactive Tinnitus or Something Else?

Hello to everyone. I am new to Tinnitus Talk but not new to tinnitus. I development noise induced tinnitus about 4 years ago. Over those years I have gotten use to the constant buzzing in my ears but in the last two weeks I am experiencing something different. I have a beep or an e ee ee eee-e sound in my right ear. It goes away if I plug my ear but competes with all sounds. People talk and it beeps with there voice. I am wondering if anybody has ever had this experience. I have an appointment with ENT but is a month away. It's driving me crazy.

 

Also, the more noise around the faster it beeps

 

I had that a while ago, in my right ear, and it seemed to go after a couple of days.
Give it a day or two and see how if it goes.

Do you mean your tinnitus get louder when you hear external source, not louder in quiet surrounding?

 

you hear a morse code?? beep beep beep beep...beep...beepp...!

 

It actually beeps to sound. If I plug my ear it stops. If in a quite room and someone's talking to me it is more single beeps(e-e-e). If in a room with a lot is background noise, watching tv it is more faster beeps( eeeee-eeee-ee). It's only in my right ear. If no noise just a mild buzz

 

And yes in quite room no beep. Just normal mild buzz that i have had for 4 years

 

you know what? My morse code does exactly the same...!!! and I hear it above everything, even super loud sounds...

 

I usually don't notice it when I have background noise around me but when in a quite room and having a conversation or listening to TV at a low volume is when I notice it the most. I notice the buzz in my left ear reacts to noise as well. The constant hiss or buzz in it gets louder. It is just easier to ignore.

I didn't think I could meet someone who could describe my reactive T as good as you do!!

Does it sound like a frying pan in your head? Mine does.

 

Yes at times it does

 

I can add to this too, but it doesn't always happen. Sometimes I'll go through a period where it really reacts and has what I would describe as a resonance with other sounds, sometimes quite metallic sounding.

I can't say for sure what it is but I think it may be sinus related, maybe part of a cold infection or something similar. Could also be from a slightly perforated eardrum - I perforated mine with a cold a few months back and as the hearing returned I had this resonance and reactivity for around a month.

Also, after I did the ANM trial mine became reactive for quite a time. So I guess that it could also be related to an adverse reaction to sounds.

 

the frying pan effect is quite variable... after my spike in May, it was very annoying, then went down and now is back again full force...

I thought I was the only one stuck with that!!

it would very well be sinus related in my case... I wonder if reactive T is T at all...!

 

I hear all the sounds fine...the frying pan is an additional sound in my head...even the sound that triggers the frying pan (train station, water running, city traffic) remains perfectly audible!

 

It is great to hear that this spike or change might go away

 

My frying pan effect goes up and down.

It is more noticeable if I am tired/stressed/upset/on my period (sorry )...

 

I find that mine does it with ringing sounds phone to ear close or say if my ear isn't plugged at work which is rarely cause I'm in construction but say if a crane or JLG (cherry picker) with a reversion beeper it follows the sounds with the beep beep beep comes a shhhh shhh shhh with it

 

Just for the fun of it, have you ever tried to write down the 'morse code' and decipher it?

My low frequency t reacts to static sounds around the same frequency as my t - fans, traffic, generators, fridge etc. That reaction goes down as soon as the stimulus is removed however.
Reactive tinnitus is defined as t that reacts, but stays reactive for hours after the outside stimulus is removed.

 

I'm exactly the same. When it was really hot this summer we had a fan on in the bedroom; my t screamed when it was on and afterwards for a short while, had to stop using it and bathe in sweat instead. Mine was the tone around 5500Hz that roared up.

 

Anybody from Canada knows where to buy NAC?? I've never seen such product here and I want to start taking it.

 

@Colby I think I have something similar since last week, it's my sixth permanent sound - is it like a mosquito flying around you, or a cicada?

It started at the beach, with the interference of the boats' noise when I was in the water - I still had it for a couple of days after coming home but now it seems to be less active - unfortunately, my other 5 sounds are very naughty this week!

I would say that you should avoid any noise that can cause interference and like that I think that particular sound will go away after a while.

 

Thanks for all the replies. Good news is that the reactive morse code beep in my right ear has went away and back it's normal buzz. Problem is that for the past week my left ear is having a pulsating hiss sound than comes and goes. After a while, it calms back down to the normal steady buzz. Could this be blood pressure related. Went to the doc and said my blood pressure is a little high
