Tell Me to Harden Up!

I need some tough love - so no negative Nancy's please

I need a general anestetic. I've already cancelled the procedure once because I got cold feet, but I do need to rebook it. It's relatively minor and isn't anywhere near my ears (it's a small bowel biopsy). Will take about 10-20 minutes all up.

I've spoken to the anaesthetic team who don't think it should upset my T, even Dr Nagler said the drugs they are using shouldn't make a difference but I'm still petrified!!!

I need to harden up right? Just do it and get it over with? While I'm 99.9% my results will come back fine, it's better to just do it isn't it?

 

I've not heard of anyone whose tinnitus was increased by an anesthetic! From the experiences on TT, I believe the tinnitus either stays the same or lowers temporarily.

So you should be fine!!

 

I've had locals since and it dulled my T a little, so fingers crossed it has the same effect!

The tenfold increase in tinnitus volume I've experienced over the past month seemed to have come from out of nowhere. Was it stress? Was it from taking Aspirin? Was is from the squealing of my AM/FM radio through earphones for a minute or two at work? I have absolutely no idea.

But my attitude is this. If I can't tell what caused it, then I can't tell what might have a positive impact on it either. Will a general anaesthetic make your tinnitus worse? I would doubt it. But who is to say it might not make it better?!

One can only hope!

G'day Amelia, assuming this biopsy is rather important to assess you overall health, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Just do it and get over with. You'll be fine luv!

 

I realize we are all different biologically, but I've had tinnitus for over 20 yrs now and have gone under general anesthesia many times in those years. Didn't hurt and it didn't help. Tinnitus remained the same. I agree with sailboardman that you need to take care of your general health and get done what needs to be done.

 

Best of luck to you! I think it's important to have the procedure. You will have one less thing to worry about.

I have a surgery scheduled Friday. I'm hoping that maybe I'll experience a short relief from my tinnitus since others have mentioned that happening after anesthesia.

I just had surgery on my ankle (7 Jan 15) and I talked with the anesthesiologist about it too; they said not to worry and they were right (didn't do a darn thing to my T -- good or bad). If it did anything at all, my T was lower afterwards (but really, it didn't do much of anything).

with all the respect yes, you need to toughen up, you're being a bit of a drama queen.... anesthetics have nothing to do with your tinnitus

its like being scared of going to the dentist because you have knee pain!!

I'm booked in, and feeling more positive about it now. My husband is a little bit amused that I'll listen to strangers advice on here above his, but I really value the advice I receive on here. My procedure isn't for another few weeks but I'll update how I go

 

Just a quick update ... I go in for this procedure in 3 days! and I've re-read this thread about a bazillion times trying lol calm myself, but I'm sure my ears are louder out of worry!

I'm resisting the urge to google "T increase + general anestetic" haha

Will pop back in and update once it's all done

Good luck, try and calm down a bit. The stress alone can cause the increase.
You will be just fine, you can do this.

 

UPDATE - had the procedure yesterday. The good news is that there were no signs of anything nasty in my insides so I'm super happy that I had the procedure, it's a big weight off my mind.

My T has seemed to fluctuate since tho, it was definitely louder, higher pitched and last night a generator type buzzing started up, although that seemed to have gone this morning - and fingers crossed it's not coming back.

This morning it's louder - but having said that, I was only allowed clear liquids for 2 days, then wasn't able to drink anything for 6 hours prior to the procedure, so I was pretty dehydrated and stressed and I'm thinking all those external factors have contributed.

I'll pop back in this thread tomorrow to report back again

 

When you feeling better, hydrated, well rested and stress is lower.....You T will be much lower as well I am sure.
