So I saw tinnitus man today , was v upset and told him how I know it was caused. Self pleasure.... Maybe I didn't tell him how much self pleasure was involved as I was too embarrassed, but he didn't think it was related. How could it not be when I know it caused it !! I checked my ears every day since I started and listened to the change.... I initially thought it was from loud sound from an mri scan and a church band but only when my other ear starred to make noise I figured it was from what I was doing .
Feeling angry, with myself, with ent fir not knowing much about t and why there is no cure !!!!!
      It's all such bull crap.

I would approach a sexologist, they talk to people about sexuality all day and if your lucky to find a senior perhaps that person have come across similar cases before.

At my age, I bet if I went out jogging, I’ve have a heart attack. And I’d ask the doctor, does jogging cause heart attacks? He’d might say no, for example.

I know what caused my Tinnitus; I had seven cups of coffee one day. And the doctor might say, no coffee does not cause Tinnitus. Course I didn’t tell him how many cups I had, just for example.

I’m being serious now. I Know a guy from work, he went out jogging, had a heart attack, they had to shock him 7 times to get his heart going again. Age around 60 - I guess.

I’m no ENT, but I’d like to give the doctors some credit, they’re probably right. Maybe it’s stress. Maybe the body just gives out. Ever wake up one Sunday, and you think you need glasses? I can’t can't focus my eyes, after that Saturday night. I know Penelope, I want a cure too.

Um, I would be really surprised if excessive masturbation caused your tinnitus, Penelope. So I would stop kicking myself about it. If you think this may indeed be the case, follow @Per's suggestion and see a sexual health professional.

And just so you know: sometimes people never figure out exactly what caused their tinnitus. And it can be a combination of things: history of anxiety or depression coupled with sudden exposure to loud noise. Sinus infection followed by an airplane flight. Years of taking an ototoxic drug followed by head or neck surgery. At some point, its helpful to stop focusing on the cause and start working on managing the condition. I had to learn that one for myself.

Carol, thanks for your reply, I really wish it was true that's it's not related I so so do. I had perfectly clear ears until I got v depressed, I literally stayed in bed for the best of 3 weeks, mastubating in a face down position say prob 60 plus times each day. Horrendous and embarrassing yes. I'm ashamed, I pushed my body beyond its limits as I was so upset . 1st all I got was stuffed up ear and a morse code noise which i didn't relate to what I was doing , then gradually a white noise eeeeeee came about in one ear. Then after more nd more my other ear stuffed up and again a morse code and white noise but it was much more in the background. Again I continued after a few weeks that ear plugged again and the background noise became pushed forward and present like the other ear . Silly person I am only realised it was what I was doing that caused it at that point . Too late. So that's it really , I know it prob sounds mad to people who have noise induced t but I've listened to my ears change through this . I'm so silly :-(

Penelope, it's really unlikely the masturbation caused your tinnitus. All the folks here have said the same to you, I don't know why you keep insisting it is the reason. Tinnitus can come about suddenly, without one knowing what triggered it, and it's not fruitful to make yourself think that you gave yourself tinnitus by pleasuring yourself. Yes, timeline wise it might make sense to you, but there's no way of knowing for sure if it is the reason (and you definitely shouldn't think so).

Try to let go of the self-blame. It doesn't really matter what caused it at this point, now you have to find tools to cope with it, and in time you will begin to feel like your normal self again.

Best of luck to your road of habituation,
      Markku

      Hi Markku,
Thanks for your reply, I know everyone is saying it couldn't have , although there are some in other threads I've posted who agree I could have .... Never the less, as you said most people don't know what triggered theirs, but i do. It's as simple as that. My t calmed down to a manageable eeeeee in one ear until i started again with the self pleasure then it went crazy and that's when the other ear came on strong. I remember thinking shit now I have really gone and done it now. I'm a bit if an obsessive person, if I do something it's all consuming be it cleaning , obsessing over something, worrying, healthy eating ..... I go overboard on stuff. This was one measure of overboard I should have done without ! Wish id gorged on cake instead! Hope habituation comes soon it's all driving me insane. :-(

No!! i cannot believe that having an orgasm 100 times a day could damage your ears, i can't see a connection ... i hope you stop blaming yourself it's not your fault!! i think you'll find that the noise exposure you had is more of the culpret.

I've a friend who has t, came along one day while she was doing her phd, stress.... I think anything that raises the blood pressure , ESP for prolonged periods has some, t being one, effect in the body. Why not mastubation? It increases heart rate, blood pressure. depletes the brain of oxygen, one can hyperventilate etc etc.... You can tell I'm not giving in here I guess I am adamant on the causality for me. I wasn't exposed to any loud noise when my other ears t came on. I really appreciate yours and everyone's replays to me though! It's good just to chat about it . Everyone else in real life are wearing thin with consoling me now I think!

I feel for you, i know you are convinced it was the cause, i understand it raises the blood pressure etc but only momentarily ... anyway Penelope i hope you start to feel better soon, keep in touch and let us know how things are going for you.

      @Penelope33:

Here is food for thought. Perhaps your depression (which you claim led you to "stay[] in bed for the best of 3 weeks, mastu[r]bating") and your tinnitus share the same cause. I believe that tinnitus often accompanies affective disorders. So, getting to the bottom of one condition may ultimately help with the other.

      My depression was beacause o
so maybe we're predisposed to getting t, a trigger is just needed and therefore causes whatever that may be? While what I did wouldn't cause it in many people, it did in my case, just like the guy you knew who had a heart attack while jogging. Bummer. :-(

So I contacted the doctor on here, about my mastubation enduced tinnitus.... He had never heard of such a case. Maybe because no female has ever done it so many times continually and caused t to herself? It was not stess. I'm just thinking of triggers during orgasm- loss of oxygen to the brain? Continually high blood p? Depletion of nuro transmitters in the brain? Swelling of tiny nerves maybe?
So it could be one or all of the above, I guess I'll never know. I'm writing this for clarity from others I guess, if anyone has a guess. Feeling down today :-(

I feel like if masturbation caused your tinnitus, it is not because it caused any damage to your ears or your auditory system.

Can you describe your tinnitus type? Do you notice any difference in your hearing? Do you notice an aggravation on your tinnitus pitch and loudness after you reach an orgasm?

It started with one ear feeling stuffed up and a morse code noise, then when the ear cleared a continual eeeeee noise , it progressed to both ears. The other ear also went stuffy too before the onset of t. Now every time I orgasm it gets worse.

Hi I honestly dont believe your masterbation has damaged your ears in any way if this was the case every teenage boy and young man would be deaf so dont be so hard on yourself. As Golly mentioned above you said you were depressed at the time which could have been the trigger for your T who knows are you on any meds at moment??Have you had your hearing tested??

I am only stressed beacause of of T. I've had an Mri scan, audio tests - hearing is good. Tymp testing... Also clear. The only injury I had was a spinal leak last sept which was repaired with a blood patch. No t after that until I started mastubating.

The Dr on here when I posed my question said maybe intercranial pressure could do it, but what about people who run for marathons, train for high impact sport etc...? Surely they have intercrainial pressure too.

      Hi Penelope

Im sorry to hear you got T, and I know very well what you are going through. Especially as I have the kind of obsessed type of personality myself.

Does your T sound like crickets? And is it kind of "fluctuating" all the time or now and then?
Also does it change pitch when moving your neck, clench your teeth or move your eyes?

Mine does, and I have got some ear pressure as well.
Started in one ear, then within a couple of weeks or so it progressed to both ears without any apparent reason.

I am trying to figure out some of the mechanics behind it :)

A gut feeling is telling me that this type of T originates from some mechanical part in the ear.

I know what you're saying. But you may be surprised with this one. When I went to my ENT for my tinnitus and after he didn't see anything wrong with my ears structurally, he asked me if I drink caffeine like coffee. And he did tell me things like excessive caffeine, grinding my teeth, clenching my jaw, taking high doses of ibuprofen or aspirin, could cause tinnitus. He never gave me the impression that the effects would be permanent though. But what I hate, is how no one says this until after the fact. Just like how you hear about how listening to loud music too much could lead to hearing loss... but the thing is, hearing loss is one thing, but tinnitus is a different matter all together. I would rather have mild hearing loss with no tinnitus than perfect hearing with tinnitus.

There are so many potential causes for tinnitus, that I wouldn't rule out masturbation, although it would obviously be an unlikely and very rare one. But if it is a possibility, even if very rare, then it could very well be the thing. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it though. Who in the world would have ever guess that doing that would cause tinnitus? That thought would have never even crossed my mind until I read your posts about it.

As for marathon runners and stuff... how do you know some of them don't have tinnitus? If there is one thing I have learned since getting tinnitus, it's that you'd actually be surprised at who has it.

Since getting my tinnitus I learned my dad has had tinnitus for over 30 years. Fortunately he knows he got it from working as a jet mechanic in the Air Force, and he is to the point where he doesn't even think about it anymore. And now I'm seeing a therapist (for tinnitus and some other reasons), and that therapist actually told me he has tinnitus too. Of course, I don't believe it was an accident at all that he became my therapist. But the point is, these are two people who I wouldn't have even known had tinnitus if I hadn't brought it up because of mine. So I wouldn't assume that marathon runners don't have them. I would guess that some do, some don't. But that doesn't mean that the ones who do have it because of running or exercise.

What caused the spinal leak? Where was it? Has it been checked since the tinnitus started?

I had a epidural spinal leak in labour.... Had the mri before the tinnitus started. But after the mri I had major panic and depression that led me to comfort myself through mastubating. I know I don't have a spinal leak anymore as I would have a headache but I don't. The worst thing is when I was leaking spinal fluid, I had a generator noise in my head until I got the blood patch. Then it completly went away until just after the mri when I started mastubating and my ears got stuffed up then t set in.

It could possibly be the spinal fluid leak. Tinnitus often appears some time after the cause. A leak can definitely cause tinnitus, though yours sounds minor.

It's even possible the tinnitus came from the MRI noise. It happens, and that can appear days or weeks later.

I do know a woman who had Meniere's disease who reported that she could avoid having attacks of tinnitus, hearing loss, and vertigo by having an orgasm. In her case, it seemed to be protective, and kept her almost symptom free for about a day.

There's been some research on the endocrine changes that occur following orgasm. An example is:
      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10367606

Tinnitus just happens. Most people develop it for reasons unknown, and they tend to want to attribute it to whatever was happening at the moment. I'm not sure I would blame the tinnitus on anything you did, despite your observing the tinnitus climb and develop during your depression and masturbation sessions. Mine appeared suddenly one gorgeous Spring day while I was standing on my front step looking out at a sunny, delightful day. I was on top of the world at the time.

Further, it's very unlikely that--if you knew what caused your tinnitus--it would make any difference at all in what you could do about it.

      Jim
