I developed Tinnitus during a time of high stress/anxiety in life. I first noticed the tinnitus the first week of July 2014. I have taken several medication for stress/anxiety which may have triggered the Tinnitus. I went to my ENT and a hearing test was performed. It was normal. I was basically told to live the Tinnitus. I often feel pressure in my ears and pain with noise sensitivity.

Are there any doctors or therapist you can recommend in St. Louis to help me manage my Tinnitus.

      Hi @JAB -

The original subject line of your post - "Tinnitus Retraining Therapy In St Louis Missouri" - indicated that you were interested specifically in TRT, but there are no TRT clinicians in St. Louis to whom I refer patients, so I added the part that appears in parenthesis to make the question more general.

Let me first say that there may, indeed, be fantastic TRT in St. Louis. It's just that if there is, I don't know about it. More to the point, when I make referrals for TRT, I feel I need to know the quality of the work of the TRT clinician by virtue of having actually observed him or her counseling patients. Moreover, I feel have to be prepared to unconditionally attest to that clinician's knowledge, expertise, experience, compassion, and integrity. So that probably lets out a number of very good TRT clinicians whom I just do not know well enough to be able to personally vouch for them.

Currently, for TRT in North America the TRT clinicians who fit the above criteria are Dr. Paula Schwartz in Minneapolis, Dr. Gail Brenner in Philadelphia, and me in Atlanta. All are set up to treat patients at a distance via phone or teleconferencing (Skype, VSee, etc.), but all require an initial in-person evaluation.

Although the subj line of your post mentioned TRT, the body of the message did not. If you are open to approaches other than TRT, you might consider talking to Shelley Witt in Iowa City about what she might have to offer you. Iowa City is closer to you in St. Louis than the cities mentioned in the above paragraph, and I hold Shelley Witt in high regard. Another possibility would be to get in touch with Dr. Bruce Hubbard in New York City. @Dr. Hubbard posts on this board from time to time. His focus is cognitive behavioral therapy rather than TRT, but his practice is set up to enable him to work with patients via teleconferencing without necessarily making a trip to his office for an initial in-person evaluation. Bruce Hubbard is one of the real "good guys" in the field. I know him personally and recommend him unconditionally.

      Hope this helps.
