As you might now Chris Martin, coldplay´s singer, has had tinnitus for years.

Apparently his is that bad that it nearly ruined his musical career.

Nevertheless he has continued doing great music and gives hundreds of gigs a year. His band makes good music, has lots of fans and he must be filthy rich.

Besides he is married to one of the most beautiful and smartest woman in Hollywood, Gwyneth Paltrow, and has two kids.

Martin seems to have been able to have a very happy life. And Martin has achieved all those things despite his T. Not bad is not it?

In fact, one of my favourite songs of his is VIVA LA VIDA. So a guy with T singing YES to LIFE? AWESOME.

Let´s take all his example and enjoy life. VIVA LA VIDA.

It's crazy to think how many gigs, concerts he has played over the over the years.....but he said that his tinnitus hasn't got worse? Whatever earplugs he uses they must be pretty decent!..lol.

I'm getting some custom made earplugs made on Wednesday, having impressions made, hopefully they will give me more confidence around loud noises. I'm hoping I can go back to my old workplace in a manufacturing plant I worked at a few years ago, been unemployed ever since!

 

Coldplay keeps the volume down in the concerts. Also, he suffers from insomnia and im not sure what thats about.

 

In the link I where it says the word "ruined" in my post takes you to an article about Martin´s T. He said that has worn earplugs for 10 years and never got worse.

 

Good to read his tinnitus didn't get worse, maybe earplugs are enough to prevent T getting worse?

Myles Kennedy, the lead singer of one of my favourite rock bands Alter Bridge also has tinnitus, almost ruined his career as well, didn't stop him though.

I wish some of these people who are filthy rich, have tinnitus that has almost "ruined" their lives would donate to research more. Considering the music industry is a source of tinnitus for a great many people it would not be inappropriate. Still, tinnitus research funding is anemic.

 

I know that Streisand donated around 25,000 to research which for one person is quite a lot. I do not know about Martin and others though. Maybe they donate but do it anonymously?

 

I was thinking the same thing... I would donate a million a year or more depending on how much i made if i were rich...

 

So why do you think the vast majority of this filthy rich people who have tinnitus do not donate?

Obviously it is not because they cannot afford it. There are other reasons.

 

If its such a sensitive subject in the media/music industry then perhaps they just dont boast about it. Donating wouldn't even be altruistic - it would be really really egoistic. I think a smart guy like Martin probably donates, but wants confidentiality. Or at least I hope so

 

This is how I see it.

Tinnitus research is underfunded, as it has been many times stated here. Why is it so? In my view:

1. Complexity of T. Ear + brain.

2. Lack of complaining from T sufferers. Lack of awareness. Silence about this noisy affliction.

How many letters have you guys written to your Congressmen? How many associations have you joined? How many articles have you sent to newspapers to raise awareness? What about creating a blog? Have you done it? How much money have you given to tinnitus research? ....... and the list can go on forever and the majority of the people with T will answer................ ZERO or NONE to every single question.

So why do we believe that this famous people should do it for us if we do not do it ourselves first?

Coldplay are one of the bands that put together an album for a tinnitus charity, I highly doubt Chris martin doesn't personally donate himself.

 

Might be. I am walking that way too. Only earplugs going to super loud places.

 

I know they have celebs donate personal items for auctions every year and they raise a decent amount of money. If we could somehow start fundraising marketed directly at the t sufferers which would be how many millions? And we all gave 5 or 10 dollars think of the money we could raise.

 

But that could be organized There could be support concerts or even members on different boards could donate and gather the money and then donate it to a certain institute/university.

 

I think it's something we should def look into. We can get a lot done maybe we should start a thread about fund raising for the site as well as for research bounce ideas around.

 

Support concert for Tinnitus... ahh the irony. It would be like smoking Marlboro Reds for a lung cancer charity. Hahaha!

 

I donate to tinnitus research (and the hearing restoration project, they are very good). It isn't a whole ton of money, but it's what I can do.

 

That is more than I have done so far and many others im sure. We are stronger in numbers and without a doubt there are many tinnitus sufferers.

 

The logic of this is excellent, the problem is that there is not enough awareness or in some cases caring.

Think about it, they say 2 million that have tinnitus are so severely impacted it affects their lives significantly. Imagine if even half of them donated 5 dollars annually. That would be 5 million dollars. Then factor in everyone that has tinnitus, say it's about 15 million (I can't remember the exact number), if 1/3 of them donated 5 dollars that would be 25 million. This amount of money would surely be able to fund research for a long time.

I mean I remember the American Tinnitus Association from their facebook page even had trouble getting 500 people to donate for their year end drive. Now, they never updated it so maybe they did reach their goal.

The same logic can be applied to hearing loss. It's estimated that 36 million people have hearing loss. Imagine if 1/6 of them donated 5 dollars annually. That's 30 million.

I know a lot of people won't donate because they say, "It's only 5 dollars, what's that going to do?" Well it's simple small amounts in large numbers mean a large amount. That's why charities say any amount is beneficial because they understand convincing people to donate small amounts when they wouldn't have donated at all can be big money if you get enough people.

I agree with everything your saying and my hope is for us to raise awareness and get people to actually care. The only way to get awareness is for people to get together and
push the agenda. How we will do these
things I don't know yet but there seems to be caring smart people here and the people that get the ball rolling might as well be us.

I dont wish T on anyone but i feel like
If Miley cyrus got it then more people would be aware about it cause shes so popular... And this was brought up before but how the hell do alot of celebrities not have T.. They say one in ten.. Doesnt seem that way.. Unless alot of them are private about it.. All those concerts and award shows and clubs and parties on the side its just crazy how more of them dont have it!!!
