Acoustic Reflex Measurement

I had this done this morning and I'm now freaking that is going to spike/make my T permanently worse. Gosh it was so loud it was almost painful.

Anyone had one of these tests with no effect to their T?

 

What kind of test is this? And I'm sorry that you had a spike it should go down. I had a spike today to and didn't have a good day.

I think you'll be fine if you have not yet. Try not to stress you might male yourself thinl you have one if you focus on it to much.

 

How did you do on the test?

 

Amelia, the test you took measures the way two tiny muscles in the ear, the stapedius and the tensor tympani, contract following the presentation of loud sound. Your ears (and the ears of anyone with tinnitus) are built to withstand hearing a loud sound for a short time. The test will not permanently impact your tinnitus. Hang in there. You will be fine.

On the lower end of normal, which she said would indicate some EDT ... But she had a lot of trouble getting the ear plug into my ear (even tried the child size)

DW! The ART are specifically designed to stop at 105dB (in Australia anyway) and if your acoustic reflexes are normal, which im sure they are, they'd respond at around 90dB. It's nothing that'll give you tinnitus promise. And if you are experiencing a spike it is likely it is just caused by anxiety. I don't mean to minimise what you're saying, but try to chill out. Even if it does seem louder, it wont last. There's no way an audiological test would ever be designed to give you NIHL or tinnitus!!!

 

I know this test, i dont like it. It spikes my T for several hours, maybe day, but then it went back to its "normal chronic volume"

 

I've not had the Acoustic Reflex Measurement test, but I have recently had an Auditory Brain Response test (ABR). It was a series of very loud continuous clicks in both ears. I was so scared that it was going to permanently increase my T, I was about to tell them to stop the test. They told me to just sit back and relax, but that was very difficult. Good news is that once I left, I didn't notice any increase in T.

Anyway, like Neenie said I'm sure these tests are designed to be safe, even for those with T. It is scary though, I know.

 

Thank Hun! I asked the audiologist if it would increase my T, and she said. I, but "T is all about perception anyway" which didn't give me the greatest confidence!

 

Sounds similar .... Although mine weren't clicks they were high pitched T like noises. So horrible!
