My name is Phil and I've had Tinnitus since early 2013. I live in Devon and have recently returned from being abroad for 7 years (as a Scuba Instructor) No doubt a few on here will have related questions regarding diving etc. I have also been trained as an assistant with HBO ( In Cyprus) dealing with a few of the unlucky with regard to the bends so I know how these chambers work. My own problems started not with tinnitus itself but with the strange phenomenon called "The Hum". My partner and I returned to the UK three years ago a death in the family brought us to Exmouth Devon ( Hey a free house!) I started to hear a low pitched drone in the house which drove myself and my partner crazy. ( Research this via Google it's heard by a lot of people not just tinnitus sufferers. Now I'm experiencing what might be construed as an orchestra in my head!
My tinnitus is high pitch but never been tested and my new local doctors are not that concerned. Sometimes the
continuous pitch is replaced by what seems to be a sparking sound ( like those creepy house movies with a defective fluorescent light trying to start) And before you say ha ha it must be your diving let me tell you that the last dive I did was over three years ago!. I only have the sound in one ear (the left one) the other is fine.
I have never in all my 3000 odd dives ever experience a barotrauma or a bend. So it is with a heavy heart that I put my hands up and say I need help and support. Thanks for reading this so far I guess we are in this together
      regards Phil

Welcome scubadude. I've only had T since the end of September. I have a consistent High pitched sound in my right ear. I hear a chimney sound in in the left only when I lay down. I experienced a very mild T years ago after someone shot off a 50 caliber weapon at a shooting range, before I could get my ear plugs in. I heard a low hum (thought a truck was running outside) for a few weeks. T wasn't even mentioned to me then. It faded away. I recently had a sinus issue and was on several meds and now T is present in a high pitched form. I'm coping quite well now (knocks on wood). Things get louder at times, but I've had quieter s too. Diet and some helpful vitamins are helping tremendously.
This has been a great source of support and knowledge here at TT, for me. I hope you find some help here, along with support and honest answers.

No your certainly not. I believe there are 50 million of us with T. The first few weeks are trying to say the least. I cried, got mad, the why me' s. I'm finding more and more time that I can put it out of my thoughts. It takes time so allow yourself some adjusting. Read as much as you can here. Stay away from some of the other internet promises of ridding you of T. Your help and guidance should come from those who understand and who keep you up on the latest research and honest facts of T. No one here will be anything but honest and will help to guide you as you figure things out. Hang in there!

      Welcome Scubadude,

You will find a wealth of knowledge here and lifetimes of experience. We understand. I have been on other Tinnitus forums but this is the best. Check back often and feel free to express your ideas, opinions or just come and blow off some steam. I feel closer and more open with the people here when discussing my tinnitus than my own family or friends.

We come from all across the world but we are all walking the same path.

Relic Hunter, Thanks for the reply I'm glad your out there....Had a bad one last night with the high pitch T and the unexplained noise called the "Hum" what a racket! Nothing beats getting up at 02.00am with a couple of large vodkas although my typing skills at that time left a lot to be desired.
