Hello, I am 38 year old male from Antwerp,

I got struck by high pitched tinnitus in my left ear 3 months ago, it came on suddenly when i got ready to go to bed, the moment i stepped into the bed i heard this high pitched whistle in my head, i was abit worried but i figured it would be gone the next day, when i woke up the next day and it was still there i got a little bit more worried , after a week i was in full blown panic, i went to the ENT and after the test it turned out i have some hearing loss at 8 kHz in my left ear (right ear is fine)

First 2,5 months where pure hell and torture, i went from a careless happy guy to a complete wreck in a couple of days.I had very very dark toughts and it scared the hell out of me. I had oxygen treatment, took steroids, nothing helped and my anxiety levels went through the roof.

After that time things started to improve, the T did not seem to bother me as much and i could easily put it in the back of my mind, i even had some moments of silence during the day, i was getting happier again, again going out to town with my wife, smiling, looking forwad to the future, i told my wife i was habituating finally to this thing, was it happening? amazing !

Untill last week this thing came back with a vengeance, just when i had the T under control in my left ear, it suddenly began in my right ear and even louder and higher pitched ! what the hell, this is my supposedly my good ear , i am back from where i was at the start, depressed and doubts about the future, luckily after a week things seem to return to normal although it is still louder and seems to switch from left to right and in both ears, i am back on the Xanax to sleep after this spike, will it go down again to previous levels? After this great week of improvement this hits me extra hard.

The doctor could not realy explain it as the right ear shows no damage and is normal for my age but he believes things will settle after a few months.

This is my story so far, sorry for the longer post but it helps to tell my story with people who are going through the same things.

      Regards,
      Bart

Make sure you mask your T at night and get a good night sleep. There are many apps for smartphones like White noise and rainfall, sleep sounds that do the trick.

I have been sleeping with nature sounds for awhile now, bird songs seem to work for me, and during the day i hear to white noise, read the TRT book by Jastreboff as well.

But the anxiety meds are something i need right now, i just take 0.5 mg Xanax before i go to sleep, been trying to just take a half now for the last 2 days, also taking 2 mg of melatonin and that seems to work for now, still feel gutted that i didnt need any of those after the first 2 months and i almost threw them away untill this spike hit me. 1 step forward, 2 steps back but i will get there.
