Tinnitus Increased After Dog Barking, Kid Munching His Food, Loud Kiss — What Can I Do?

as always, my family comes over and I try to minimize being exposed to the loud noise. Avoiding loud noises is impossible during these events.

My loud noise exposures:

• Dog barking 4 meters away at 102 decibels (barked 4 times)
• A kid munching his food next to my ear for a second
• Loud kiss near my ear

My tinnitus has now increased, what can I do?

 

I find that my emotional response to similar noises you describe plays a big part in how my tinnitus reacts.

I have twin 1 year old boys who like to scream. Also have two Labradors who like to bark. If I react negatively to the noise and have bad thoughts my tinnitus most surely increases. If I don’t give the noises any thought or power my tinnitus doesn’t seem to be affected as much. I don’t reinforce my brain into treating tinnitus as danger. This wasn’t an overnight fix for me but has made a big difference over time.

I try to stay as stress free as possible. Worrying about things I have no control over only increases my tinnitus.

My dog (Jack Russel) just barked in my ear it was so loud.

I felt an instant weird mugfled or something feelin in my ear, tinnitus has not increased yet (10 minutes after it happened).

So I dont know what this feeling in my ear is, it doesn’t hurt but it I don't know, it feels weird.

What could this feeling be, is it a sign of damage?

Sorry for asking the obvious, but what's wrong with earplugs, like e.g. Moldex Spark Plugs?

The way you describe your family, it won't affect communication, it merely serves to bring down the noise to halfway sane levels.

 

I used to get that a lot! I think it's inflammation but just a theory. It's just a sign that our inner ears are messed up.

It should happen less and less often. But, for me, barks and other noises can still result in spikes and ear pain.

I don't think there's anything that can be done for that weird feeling in the ear. At least, I never found any "treatment" or remedy. :-(

It still happens on occasion. It's really bad if you also have 'clicking.'
