Tinnitus, Live Music and Habituation

My T is not too bad, probably around a 3 on 1-10 scale. I'm well habituated. Last night I listened to some music in a recording studio sound booth with old bandmates. Not terribly loud, but not exactly soft. We later played a few tunes for about 30 minutes. My T is no louder today as I sit now in a quiet room listening to my 10 kHz hissing. Some of the loudness at the moment is coming from sleep deprivation due to excessive travel. It usually settles down when I get back to regular sleep.

Tonight I will go see friends play a reunion show in a club. I do this about 2x each year. I will stand to side of the stage (where we musicians tend to hang out...) and have my 30 dB ear plugs in place. These shows run at about 95 dB. Subtracting 25 from that gives 70 dB. That's not loud enough to overly concern me. So in summary, I'm very cautious about volume and length of time, and still do things I enjoy. That said, I can appreciate the caution and concern held by others. I wish all peace in their struggles to cope.

Good message and approach. I am in the same boat. I am more cautious but won't let my high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus stop me from enjoying concerts and music.

 

I wish I had the guts to be a musician. Too scared of T getting worse.

 

I so miss music.
