Weird Response to Frequency Test

There is an app for iphone called tinnitus meassure. It allows you to play specific frequency sound so you can compare it to your T.
I am not a fan of playing these sounds as I am afraid it might affect the t but I tried few times. I noticed something weird. My t is high frequency so when I play a tone of 15000hz at low volume through speaker I hear it the first time through left ear. Then I try right ear and I hear it too. But when I try again the left ear shuts and does not hear it anymore but right one does.
If I repeat after few days I experience same behavior.

It's like the hair cells shut off or protect themselves?

What do you think?
I found that to be an interesting response of the ear or brain.

My guess is that the T on your left ear is at 15000hz and the T on your right is not. When your ear hears external sounds that matches your T frequency it seems 'like the hair cells shut off or protect themselves', but it is not permanent. After a while (couple of mintues?) the T comes back again. That is what I experienced myself. However, the T on both my ears are the same frequency. You might want to try out other frequencies for your right ear

 

How safe is to play high frequencies at low volumes?

Playing high frequencies for a while for you to identify your T frequency I guess its not too big an issue. If you intend to listen to that for a few hours at one go, then I'm not too sure. We have to ask the more knowledgable guys here.

 

I am asking because sometimes I wonder if testing myself few times it the past might actually cause T.
My testes were few seconds but who knows? Maybe few seconds of 18000Hz signal is enough to activate T?

 

That's fine. I doubt you will be playing it long enough to affect you in any way. and it's usually high volumes that do the damage.

 

One time I increased the volume on my headset to see how far I can hear. I was able to hear to 18400 when volume was high but this test was only for 3-6 seconds but i am worried that this could do something to me and activate the t?
