Ear Infection (Amoxicillin Resistant)

So because I have chronic ETD I get ear infections a lot (not overseen by an ENT bc most of the ENTs I have seen have been highly incompetent and/or inappropriate with me) but this one that I have just doesn't seem to want to quit. I was prescribed amoxicillin by an urgent care doctor a couple months ago when it got really bad and it seemed to help for awhile but a few days after my antibiotic treatment stopped it came back full force and it's been giving me trouble ever since. I think it might be resistant to amoxicillin. Amoxicillin has never made my tinnitus worse at all and I had no side effects or anything. I guess whatever bacteria is in my ear is just really strong.

I am trying to get in an appointment with my GP to get her to recommend me to this promising ENT in the same building that has really good reviews. But you know how ENTs are. Any advice on how to proceed? Other antibiotics to try? I'm thinking of asking my ENT to let me just have balloon dilation for my eustachian tubes to open them up.

 

You need to proceed carefully.
Most antibiotics are ototoxic.
Amoxicillin is the least side-effect to tinnitus.
You need to get expert's advice
or T friends here at forum who knows other safe antibiotics.

. Do you have any discharge from the ear you could swab?

. It may not be bacterial (eg fungal) or may have a resistent strain. Would be good to isolate the strain/s and get a sensitivity done

. If you suspect a biofilm ear infection, you could try adding in a biofilm disruptor eg; NAC.

. I have tested POS for MARcons (multiple antibiotic resistent staph), thought to persist in my sinus because of the presence of biofilms. Related to chronic inflammatory syndrome. Currently doing daily nasal irrigations with: filtered water, sea salt, xylitol (biofilm disruptor), aluminium free sodium bicarb, and a few drops of citrus sed extract. In a week, im to add in liquid herbs that ill stay on for several months.

No I don't have any discharge. I have an INNER ear infection. Meaning inside my middle ear. So a swab would not be possible.

 

You're thinking of a middle ear infection (otitis media). The inner ear could also be infected, but it's not as easy to determine, since we can't just "sample" the inner ear and look for pathogens.

Are your eardrums inflamed? I bought an inexpensive digital otoscope that plugs into my cellphone to look at mine after getting ear infections.

I hesitant to say this here (because it immediately alerts the prednisone police on this forum), but I took a very short course of prednisone after a very loud incident I had a month ago. During this time I also seemed to have some residual ETD from an ear infection I had months before. The prednisone seemed to help open up my eustachian tubes. I guess it's just acting on the inflammation. I don't know what to make of it, prednisone is a serious mediation with side effects, and it's not an approved treatment for ETD and not a good idea if you have an ongoing infection, but was an interesting side effect to say the lest.
