Yeah. I read about this. By making the mice produce an extra amout of the NT3 protein they were able to restore the hearing in mice that had noise induced hearing loss. NT3 was important in keeping the connection between the hair cells in the cochlea and the nerve cells of the auditory system. Interesting reading. They used some kind of gene therapy to make the mice produce more NT3.

It's a great time to be a mouse. They have cured everything in mice. Now let's pray they can start curing humans for once.

"Members of the armed forces are particularly vulnerable. In 2013, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, reported hearing loss as one of the most common ailments among veterans receiving disability compensation."

That's a quote from the article and something I find amazingly stupid. Of course many veterans are exposed to constant loud sounds and ... fine ... the guys/gals have a hearing loss but what's being done for it? I know in the vet forum I saw, their tinnitus is being ignored. The compensation for hearing loss was minimal. I see governments tossing desperate people to fight wars for us and they do not have proper compensation for them after what happened to the vets.
