Hearing test this morning

Just had another hearing test and this one didn't go so well she seems to think I have a hearing loss in a high register in one ear.
I'm devastated. Seriously. I honestly thought my hearing was perfect and this has shaken me ... I found it really difficult and had to concentrate SO hard to hear those beeps.

They checked my eardrum reflexes and looks like I have some mild ETD ... Not that I didn't know that.

She also said that my T was noise induced and could not have been caused by the nasal flush. Apparently noise induced can be gradual ... But seriously - I never listen to loud music etc so it must have been bloody gradual!

Im so down about this

 

Is the ETD causing the ringing? Is there anything they are going to do about ETD for you? I'm so sorry about your day. I'm not having a good one either. Like Karen said keep doing what you are to protect your ears and in time everything will be okay.

 

Thanks ladies I honestly know I was loosing interest towards the end in that ear and found my mind wandering back to my T so who knows how reliable the test was at that point

 

And my right ear has felt blocked ever since the test ... FML

I agree with Karen. Lots of people with t have high pitch hearing loss in one or both ears. I didn't know it until I tried an online tone generating test. I thought my hearing was perfect. And there it was; at anything above 8khz - I was completely deaf in my right ear, but ok in the left.

At least its not a really important bandwidth!

On the ear test/ ENT specialist front, the consultancy I received at the onset of my t was at its absolute best, completely disappointing. I was given the 'loud noises lecture' was told "You just have wax" , was told 'you dont have wax', was told "it will go away", was told "get used to it". All rubbish. At least the last guy was honest.

Its funny about the fullness you feel in the ear...maybe something good is happening in there! What a mystery it is.
I hope things quiet down a bit for you and the rest of us.

what do you mean by high registers? when ENT speaks about noise induced hearing loss, they mean a cookie bite like on this pic : http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/images/noise_audio2.gif

 

Mine didn't look like that .... Mine was a straight line with one dip

 

It's called a "notch" in audiogram language. A notch will grow into a cookie bite - if left "unattended" (so to speak).



Indeed when a notch occurs at 2 or 4 kHz, it is usually a sign of noise exposure. In rare cases, it can also be a sign of a congenital defect. Lastly, if your previous recent audiograms came back fine, then possibly you simply couldn't hear the given frequency due to your tinnitus (and not because of hearing loss). When I did laser therapy last year for a two month period, I had 7 audiograms done at a private clinic to track my progress. Because of tinnitus influencing my ability to hear clearly at low volumes, I would frequently ask the audiologist to redo the hearing test for a specific frequency - and sometimes the whole hearing test itself!

I also have/had a notch at 2 kHz, see attachment.

Generally it is said that hearing loss causes tinnitus.. I did not know that tinnitus alone itself can be a reason of hearing loss.. Previously I had searched the net if there is an evidence or a case that tinnitus sound surpasses the outside noise and leads to hearing loss at a specific frequency, but could not find anything about this..

 

Mine caused from High blood pressure and recently I did a hearing test, I was so confidence that I will have good hearing.
He told me I have little hearing loss, like 0.0001 in the left ear and it makes me very depressed.
I can't focus with all these noises in my head.
On DEC I did a hearing test and it was normal, I don't know if tinnitus will make me deaf ! :'(

 

@attheedgeofscience - thanks for explaining it I had a think about it overnight and I missed the sound at the end of the test, when my mind was wandering back to the t and I was losing interest to be honest. My bone conductivity test was fine, so I'd say it's more to do with my added T sound in the background. Which still sucks!
