Is an MRI or MRA Helpful for Somatic Tinnitus due to Neck Trauma?

      Car accident
My tinnitus was caused by whiplash (rear-ended at stop sign) a couple of months ago.

I am pretty confident it is related to my neck muscles, because I am able to change the sound when I turn my head. Relaxing my neck muscles seems to relieve the sound. For example, chin tucks, hot showers, ice packs on my neck have reduced or temporarily quieted my tinnitus.

      My question:
Will an MRI or MRA reveal anything? My concern is that this type of tinnitus will not show up on the scans.

Has anyone had tinnitus from neck trauma, and had an MRI? Did the MRI results show anything that identified the problem?

      Just curious.

      Thanks.

      Assault/Contusion/Ear Infection
I was assaulted on over the head and ears, (punches only) by 2 uncivilized criminals. one of those surprise coward attacks from behind. I only hear my T at night so I try not think of it during the day.
I had to get a full brain mri as well as Ear mri and it all came normal except high intracranial pressure pushing against my optic nerve which I had to fix via a lumbar puncture.

So back to your question, the MRI results showed I did not have any damage to my ears. You can read details of my MRI here. My audio gram is normal as well, I did a DPOAE test thru my audiologist and it is normal as well per my audiologist. See if you can get a DPOAE test.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you.

I plan on getting an MRI & MRA of my brain and neck, because it does not seem to be related to my ears.

Had both MRI and MRA, it showed nothing. I have been tracking my tinnitus and it skyrockets after or during a massage that involves the neck and a massage chair with the moving pressure balls that specifically target the neck. Never had any idea that is what it was.
