Anyone have suggestions or ideas to submit to researchers?
      (There are not idiot ideas)

      Here is mine for example:
Why not a partial cochlear implant for only the missing frequencies that the brain compensates?

because a cochlear implant does destroy all haircells.

Ok, here is my invention idea.
Design a hearing aid that amplifies 8-20khz and remap the brain back to normal. If the hearing aid is too bulky (mechanical limitations) then just carry it with you in a backpack like an oxygen tank. Then once the tinnitus is gone (brain rewired back to normal), s l o w l y wean yourself off the machine, as to allow the brain to adjust. Most tinnitus begins because the brain did not have time to adjust - sudden hearing loss.

I asked the same question to Starkey people there is a physics of hearing which limits this. I will study this further there is a hearing aid using electrical simulation

I instinctively agree about the possibility of a link between T and sudden hearing loss of the type that might be associated with a serious acoustic trauma or head trauma. It seems logical that sudden hearing loss would be more likely to induce T than gradual hearing loss. I just wondered if the link has been scientifically proven. If not, then that would be my suggestion for further research.

Even if the link is proven, I am still not sure about the practicality of using hearing aids to amplify the higher frequencies in the way that @dan is suggesting. I am not necessarily saying that he is wrong about this. I just don't know enough about the subject to be sure that he is right.

Dan's idea that tinnitus is associated with sudden hearing loss sounds like a good theory to me. On Oct/5/2007 I was tinnitus/distorted hearing free, and on Oct/6/2007 I had tinnitus and distorted hearing. Could even tell you the particular shooting event that caused it. It must be noted however that plenty of folks who aged normally and avoided acoustic trauma also have bad tinnitus. Bottom line is that when hair-cells die, synapses cry. We get tinnitus because the brain searches for the signal that it lost. Or maybe We get tinnitus because when the hair-cell breaks off/dies the signal is stuck on. We don't know. Nobody knows.

We have hearing aids that administer electrical currents to the cochea; cochlear implants do this. In some cases they cured tinnitus from chronic sufferers, and in others they caused it.

Honestly I think the best things one can to do help researchers is raise awareness regarding tinnitus and provide funding for both hearing restoration research and tinnitus pathology research.

I was going to post this as an own thread, but lets start here first...

Are there any Tinnitus researchers active on this board? There clearly should be.

Ladie and Gentleman sufferers of Tinnitus. As i am one very bad sufferer. Medical research community. Thank you for all your doing, but you unfortunately do not do enough. By today's date you should have already found something in the way of medical that can help us by reducing the loudness of the Tinnitus if not a cure. You have and continue to fail us sufferers as you have produced zero, "0". Nothing, not even a little something to help us get through the day or night or both and give us hope. All we get from you is mice that you are having luck with, or new this or that that produced something in 7 of 10. Garbage. It is sad that you researchers are so behind and continue to eat away the years sucking up research funding and yet producing no results.

Sad for all of us that we are here and cannot rely on you researchers.

Map the dead haircells and corresponding damage /frequencies precisely.

Then feed these frequencies via an hearing apparatus into the ear and manipulate the phase of each frequency to effectively cancel out the tinnitus.

This does not work. Simply stimulating a certain sense does not drive change in the brain. The brain needs to pay attention in order to drive change. But your idea is not new. Retuning the brain is exactly what they aim to do with VNS (with results in rats and in humans).

      Scientific Explanation of VNS Paired...

They should expand this study to research if tVNS devices could have the same effect.

Most people do not like to have their brains cut upon to have a look. Or suffer from the severe consequence of bad/experimental medication. They use animals for a reason.

It is not really research if you know what the answer is.

researcher need to get together and push for changing laws to how long it should take before a patient can be helped ... time is everything here and that is what they are taking away from us everyday!

Amazing treat. But do we have any tinnitus expert on the forum lately? @Markku? I have been thinking about it lately and maybe we can share our ideas and experiences from our suffering with them. Or maybe we can start a campaign to reach out some labs like SciFluor via mails to make raising awareness about T?

God I do want to do something because I'm at the edge of my suffering and there is still so little studying going on about T.

And here is my suggestion to reseachers:

Please go and work on retigabine which is something science world forgot to search about it for years. We already had some reduction in our Ts but it is so little or temporary.
