Viruses and Bacteria as a treatment

Recently I had a really bad cold; a whole weekend in bed with pain in all my joints and a couple of weeks totally recovered.

While going through it my T went from crazy high to weird and, most importantly, to quiet. Eventually everything went back to where things were but that made me think if we could use viruses or bacteria to treat T.

Maybe they could do something like killing those damaged hair cells while only stunning healthy ones. Pretty much the same strategy we have with cancer when using chemotherapy, that is, it damages all cells but cancerous ones more.

So I wonder if there is any research out there pursuing this line of research. Also, I wonder, have any of you noticed any improvement after a virus/bacteria infection?

 

Hi Fran, i think you should consider to do an allergy test. I know someone who has similar experience and she was allergic to dust, mold & etc and her T has improved significantly after treated her allergy. It seems that the immune system is causing problem to the ears and the infection has made the immune system too busy to bother with the ears

 

Hey Fran, what a trip! I am so stoked you T has subsided after your cold!! That's awesome!! Gives me a little hope as I am sitting here watching the Superbowl with a gnarly cold (trying to make sense of the halftime show ???). My T is off the charts during this cold!! Hopefully my T will lessen as I heal up from this cold!! That would be amazing!!

Interesting thesis about treating T in this way??? Interested to hear what others think......

 

I don't think viruses or bacteria would be the route for neurological issues.

This sounds intriguing but I think that dead or damaged, lack of sensory input may further upset the auditory pathways and increase T.

Maybe targeted stem cell therapy might one day be a thing

(for those where the cause is damaged hair cells, and that is many I guess).

 

Interesting. I read that when were born were 100% our own bacteries, in adult states the table turns into 1% your own, hosting the other 99% foreign bacteries. The approach of treating with bacteries is being performed in Finland especially on clostridium difficile (too much of that bacteria which is lethal). They would insert some of the stomach content from a related into the patient, restoring the balance of bacteries from one deadly moment to another cured.
There is research on the approach and considering were made up by bacteria, it would surprise me if your experience couldnt affect it, brain or other limbs, the research approach it just a quite new.

 

Well, maybe is not about the virus/bacteria killing damaged hair cells. Maybe just they deposit some chemicals in the inner ear or do some kind of cleaning... I don't know. But since we can engineer viruses and bacteria in so many ways I just wondered if we could use that to our benefit.

Hi Eddy, turns out that I am allergic to dust. . But, I didn't know there are treatments for this beyond avoiding dust. Could you tell me how she treated her allergy?

 

I don't think the virus/bacteria is doing anything helpful but it just made your immune system busy and the fact that you are allergic to dust has further prove that maybe it's your over active immune system causing/worsening your T.

I assumed that you've done an allergy test before? How serious is your dust allergy?
Dust/mold allergy can be treated with immunotherapy or allergy shots. It has been observed that many people with meniere's disease and known allergy will improve their vertigo or T after allergy shots. It's not a quick fix though as the whole treatment can last from 3-5 years. The girl i mentioned, she has improvement after about 6 months of allergy shots.

I think in your case it is very worthy for a try. Who knows it might stop your T!

 

I don't think it will stop it since I have hiperacusia as well and loud noised (for my standards) have worsens my condition but this is definitely something I am going to explore and I am going to get an appointment with an allergist.
