Interesting little interview with Amber Lyon about the medicinal benefits of psychedelics.

I've already talked about this in a couple of other threads here but I really think given the right conditions and research, there's real potential for drugs like MDMA, mushrooms, marjiuana, DMT and what not to be become useful ways of treating tinnitus.

It definitely won't be as simple as just taking a dose of one of the mentioned drugs and getting better automatically, but I think that significant results could possibly obtained if these drugs were used in combination with some sort of targeted therapy like TRT, CBT, or some sort of neuromodulation protocol.

I think Its worth trying it. for some reason I think the T originates in the brain and not in the ear like everybody believes.

I am planning a trip to Peru for Ayahuasca , my friend went and it completely changed his life .
I don't expect any changes to my T but it might help me to come to terms with it ?
I have yet to see if I can make this happen but I have started planning.

Weed ,in my opinion is not good for anyone prone to anxiety. In fact I think you can develop anxiety with weed use.

      :)

Well, it's not much worse than all the doctors who write hand written prescriptions so illegible that it every year costs many lives because the pharmacy hands out the wrong medicine...

Hey, @Grace: I had the same experience with MJ. Was at a party, about five months after my tinnitus began, and thought: What the heck? Maybe it will mellow me out. Instead, made me crazy paranoid and anxious (my T originally sparked an anxiety reaction), which then made my tinnitus that much louder. Never again.

I don't know if tinnitus necessarily originates in the brain, @Raytr: it often begins with damage to the ear. But think most doctors agree that chronic tinnitus is a brain disorder more than an ear disorder, which is why ENTs aren't a lot of help.

Sorry, I don't put much trust in what Amber Lyon has to say about anything.
But when it comes to psychedelics: Feel free, although they aren't for me. I figure its the same thing as using prescription meds, and fully support medical marijuana. Just be careful, as the quality control may not be there. I think some illegal drugs, just like legal ones, can be dangerous.

I know essentially nothing about brain chemistry drugs. Only thing I know about is painkillers.

I did respond to this thread yesterday - that is the only current brain chemistry drug with some reliable potential for tinnitus (under specific circumstances):

      https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/retigabine.5074/

I am generally not a fan of drugs - especially brain chemistry drugs. They are the work of the Devil. The usage of brain chemistry drugs in psychiatrics is shameful; they shorten people's livespan by 10-15 years when used longterm...

Painkillers are "straightforward"; yes, opioids can be addictive when used longterm, but once they are out of the system, no harm will have been done to the cognitive functions.

    13. I took a percocet yesterday and it spiked my t and h. I have chronic pain and would love to know what I could take that wouldn't cause a spike. My t is still up a little today.

It's very difficult having to choose between mental discomfort or physical. ...

sorry that happened to you also, and yeah mj is a no go for people with T in my opinion at least! Cant see any other psychodelic drugs do any better or at least an upper drug which speeds up the heart resulting in extreme anxiety. Downer drugs such as benzos and painkillers dont give me that effect, just a relaxing feeling. And i believe MJ is mostly an upper drug and can produce schizophrenic**** like behavior in some people and if your already an extremely anxious person i could deff see that happenin cause it sure as hell felt like i was goin nuts lol

Try a different opioid. For pain of the "skeleton", NSAIDs + opioids work better than paracetamol + opioids.

However, for chronic pain of the skeleton, I would recommend making an effort in terms of exercises, muscle strenghtening, physiotherapy, foam rolling, trigger point therapy, stretching, posture correcting remedies such as balance chairs and working in a standing position, along with posture correcting exercises. Usually very good results can be achieved... if the right methods are applied - consistently. This would avoid the need for painkillers in the first place.

For other types of chronic pain, the options are more limited.

    16. Thanks. I have tried morphine with toradol in hospital which broke the pain cycle but also spiked my h. Pain is all facial, involving nerve, muscles, joint and pain from h.

I do trigger point therapy, use heat and ice. Take advil at times. I am waiting to see Osteopath as well.

Sadly the percocet works well for the pain so it's rather disappointing that it causes a spike.

You need to give LLLT some thought (in case the normal therapy options don't work); LLLT is fairly common amongst physiotherapists nowadays...

I have posted pictures of it in my introduction:

      https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/my-introduction.1862/#post-43815

In basic terms, LLLT promotes tissue regeneration (of nerve-, skin-, muscle-cells, etc.): one could consider it a "discount" stem cell treatment (= rejuvenation of the body). It is also used in dermatology - for the same reasons (ie. non-invasive facelift, eczema, and so on).

      Good posture suggestions:

    18. Unfortunately I've always had poor posture, something my mother would always try to "fix" when I was young. Made it worse with years of computer use...I have long suspected it to be a (part )cause in my jaw issues and now maybe t and h..i think it could all be connected.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out :)
