So alot of my tinnitus problems comes from problems with my eustachian tubes being blocked.

Lately it's gotten alot worse with all this crunching and crackling when I swallow which makes the tinnitus worse due to the fullness and my doctor suggested going to an ENT specialist and having Eustachian Tube Endoscopy done so the ENT guy can have a look up there with a camera and see whats happening.

But I just had to check it out on youtube first and it looks fucking terrifying.

Has anyone had this done before with a camera up your nose to check your sinus and tubes etc..

I worry the procedure would some how make my tinnitus worse.

I know it's not like they are shoving a camera down your ear but going through the back of your nose instead but it still really scares me.

I had a camera up my nose to check my sinuses like the picture below. Yes it is painful, and I only did it because it was necessary to rule a sinus infection out. I even had a CT scan of my sinuses. Nothing found, all normal.

But I have the crunching and cracking too, and all ENT's say it's fine, it's normal. I don't believe them.

I had it done twice and I wouldn't say it was painful, more weird!
ENT used numbing spray so I didn't feel much at all.

My ent diagnosed me with sinusitis.. Because my ears always crackle everytime i breath in or open my mouth and nose always feels stuffy even tho nothing is in it.. He gave me like a washing with liquids in my nose with like 3 different kinds of medicines that shit felt so weird and made me almost choke on it.. Didnt really do anything.. But he never ran a camera up there..

I've had the camera up the nose & did it right then & there. Used some sort of numbing spray, left it a few moments to take effect & took a look. Not painful at all my friend (y)

@Karl28: There are people out there who do this as a hobby using a live snake through a nostril, coming out the mouth. Nice eh? Watching this before an endoscopy video may help make it appear half as bad. ;)
Request the Dr. to use a numbing spray (as Kopesy suggested) to work in a few minutes beforehand, which helps. Specific tinnitus sounds you described - mainly crackling sounds does indicate eustachian tube dysfunction. Sinusitis is often overused for T diagnoses. Have you tried a Netti pot? Hopefully, it's a simple resolution to your T.

Yeah I've thought about taking a netipot but I'm worried I might get water trapped in my middle ear and that would make the tinnitus so much worse.
      My nose isn't blocked though.

I had this done to check my eustachian tube opening.
The lidocaine solution used for this procedure actually triggered my t 18 months ago. Had a menstrual migraine at the time, so might have been the combination of this with the anesthetic and anxiety.
They don't go that far in, as the eustachian tube openings are pretty close up the nose. And with the anesthetic, no actual pain is felt.
Turns out that for me, it was a redundant test anyway. As I was clear on the tympanometry that they had already performed.
Imagine getting t on a test that was not needed in the first place. Grrrr.

Mmm. I've had this done twice. It is totally harmless and does not hurt.

I've had this done at least twice. It's not especially pleasant, but it's fairly fast, not actually painful, and had zero impact on my ears.

Hi Karl28, I saw an ENT who did that last year. He sprayed some type of numbing agent up inside my nose and then proceeded with the endoscopy. I personally didn't feel much of any discomfort and watched it on a TV- like monitor and could see what my nose/sinuses looked like inside....... Rich

I tried with a syringe to spray some water into my nose and then move my head to the side. It reaches the eustachian tube and then the cracking stops for some minutes. But I think it's sticky and won't come off with just some water.

Ive had this numbing spray with endoscopic procedures done a few times and now having realised that it has permanently changed the way i project my voice .The same stuff can be inside cocaine so be careful .
Its totally unnecessary doctors have no clue what they are playing with . It feels as though it numb's your nose permanantly and i have not recovered ever fully . Has anyone else had a similar experience ?

Had it done a few years ago for something unrelated. Wasn't painful at all as far as I remember, just uncomfortable.

No pain, its just weird feeling is all.

Focus on breathing via your mouth and it will go easier for both you and doc.

They spray a slight anesthetic so it doesn't hurt you. Like others have said, it just feels weird. Imagine picking your nose, but with a really tiny/thin finger so that you can go all the way back. That's basically it.
