      Tinnitus Since:

      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Perforated eardrum
Has anyone here developed tinnitus in both ears or in the head following an infection or perforation in only one ear? Can we perceive it in both even if only one ear is damaged?

Anyone? I perforated my right eardrum over 2 months ago and developed bilateral tinnitus a day later. Can't understand why the ringing is in both ears and would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this from one-sided infection, trauma, etc.

      Thanks!!

yes this is pretty common; the short, very simplified answer is that tinnitus is thought to often arise not from signal loss in the auditory nerve itself, but from changes in the parts of the brain which process that signal.
