Experiment: Success in Finding a Phantom Sound with Music Keyboard

It took a while but I found the exact note & type of sound on my music keyboard that matches the phantom sound I hear when my refrigerator compressor goes on.

I plan on playing this now for my audiologist when I see him next. I recorded it on a small digital recorder and while my fridge compressor was on I played the recording.

It actually seemed to lessen my ability to hear the phantom sound after I stopped the recorded sound for minute or less. I repeated this procedure for about 5 times & it seemed to work each time. I could still hear it as I got real close to the fridge but it didn't seem to be as bothersome.

Maybe there's something here that can help other's with hyperacusis such as mine. This may just be residual inhibition but for hyperacusis.

 

Hoping this YouTube video is something we tinnitus sufferers can all share with others who are curious what our tinnitus sounds like. I recorded 16 different sounds based on A8 note of the piano/keyboard.
