Ha... I used to work for a company that was part of Novartis before it's Agrochemicals division was spun off, to create Syngenta. What's really promising about this research now is that it is no longer confined to just academic institutions (nothing wrong with the research there, but their funding opportunities are severely limited in comparison to the pharmaceuticals industry). The high throughput capabilities of the pharmaceutical industry will be really the key in pipelining some useful treatments in my opinion.

      Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a list of all the drugs in the pipeline for hearing restoration, preservation, and, of course--tinnitus! It would be great if we had a centralized area where we could keep track of these drugs as they progress through their research and clinical trial stages?

      Hi Hudson,

Could you give us more insight into Norvartis/GenVec's work cited above? Any info would be so appreciated!

I am doing some kind of list of research activities related to each year, started 2011 in a German board.

Need to update soon. 2011 was most posts...after that is reduced a bit.

Thanks joejunior and Sisko for the information!

I agree we need a centralized place for drug studies and clinical trials. Not everything needs to be included. But projects receiving considerable funding or in the pipeline for development should be listed. We also need to list clinical trials of these drugs or medical devices. All this information is available but is so scattered. Centralizing it would not be that formidable of a task, for, as we all know, there's not that much out there. Hearing loss is better funded than tinnitus, but neither are high priority.

TRI does a good job listing research projects, but I like the idea of the focusing on ones closer to fruition--not 10 years out. Anyway, perhaps we can get together and get something centralized.

Sisko: Thanks for the link to MedWorm. I've never seen it, even though I do research all the time!!

And it's good that big pharma is finally getting involved in hearing issues :) !!

The "Knowledge Base" is coming very soon. We are talking weeks now, as one last part of the puzzle is finally resolving itself. It will be a part of Tinnitus Talk, but in a better form for this type of information than a regular forum layout. You'll see what I mean once it's published, and up & running!

Of course we'll be listing research projects in that section too, and the idea about listing clinical trials alongside is one that will be included. It will be community effort, so we'll see how it starts to shape itself once I have completed the first phase, i.e. bringing it online!

I think a knowledge base would be very beneficial on several fronts. First, it would be a great place to see what new research is being done, and as the member count on this site increases, we will gather even more data for input. We've also already seen input from people who are taking part in clinical trials. Trying those experiences with a given open research topic may be really cool (although I'm sure it would anger some of the people administer clinical trials to have collaboration about their effects of their drugs outside their circles).
