I worked construction for several years but mostly in the supervision area. Wore the ear protection since the mid 80s on jobs. Would wake up and on average about every 3 months have a low level chirping noise in the morning that would last just a few minutes and stop. This went on for around 2 years before I woke up one morning with the high pitch noise that sounded mostly in my right ear and has since went to both ears. I felt like it started because I had came back from Florida feeling really good and decided to level my front yard with a load of soil. It was fairly warm for early April so I thought I would move a few loads and stop. Well 1 neighbor came over to help and before long there where 3 helping me to move it all. I drank plenty of fluids but worked 6 hours longer than I planned. I had the worst muscle cramps I had ever experienced and cramped places I couldn't believe would cramp. 2 days after that I woke up with tinnitus and muscle aches in my back and neck that seem to change from one spot to another. My doctor took me off of 20mg Crestor and the muscle pain stopped which I was able to start back on at 5mg without problems. I believe my body went through some kind of shock for me to start having T and problems with my Crestor at the same time. My ENT said I do have some hearing lost and I told him that 90% of the time when I'm having a low noise day, it really picks up when I shower, like some nerves are being aggravated. Here's hoping for a cure in the near future.
I had problems getting to sleep and even carrying a conversation when it first started and didn't care if death would come. I then got a MP3 player called a Sansa clip and found a sound that would almost mask the noise. I used a pink noise I downloaded from Amazon music because the white noise wouldn't mask it. I started with a small head set but later found a head band with speakers that were more comfortable to sleep in. Funny how your brain wouldn't rest with the noise from within but with the external sound I could finally sleep. My Family Doctor tried me on 100mg Zoloft a year after it started, which I had heard helped some people, me it just kicked up the volume and after 6 weeks of misery and 0 days of any relief, I threw them in the trash. Now I'm still trying to cope with the higher pitch it seemed to have started. I don't know what the future for a cure holds but this sure has changed my life. Good Luck and God Bless anyone with T.

Thanks Sherri, Looks like your 6 months into T. I would say its great to find other people with this terrible affliction but I wouldn't wish it on anyone. As much as other people we are around say they understand how you feel, they really don't understand how you feel. My wife can say something to me that can just set me off yelling, where as before I would listen and even joke about it. She says she gets it but unless you deal with it 24/7, there is no way to understand. Anyway, hope you are dealing with yours as well as possible and maybe somone will be able to really help us one day with a cure.

Yes Tim agree it sure has changed my life, I'm depressed every time it spikes. After experimenting with dozens
Of supplements I've finally found a combination that works to keep the volume low ....it's 500 or 1000 mgs of Niacin in the mornings, magnesium chelate 400mgs at bedtime with camomile tea, and just recently I added 1500 mgs of Bio Cgel ( vitamin C ) with fruit bioflavonoids, and ofcourse no salt, sugar, caffeine, sugar and avoid fruits
      With too much sugar content.

Take care Tim, hope you're having a calm T day.

Hi Tim welcome I had T for 3 months and don't know how mine started ? i went to bed on night and woke up with it, i have gotten a masking device that plays white noise for me cause my brain for some reson finds that relaxing.
i take 500 mg of B12 1 tab 500 mg magnesium every morning, and drink lots and lots of water and and at night i drink camomile tea, i stay away from sugar as much as possible and salt , salt has played a major role in spiking my T, i'm still learning about this T thing and this site has really helped me , these are real people with the same every day ringing and there stories have made me feel like everything is going to be ok . i'm not alone in this . My husband keeps forgetting that i have T and every now and then will say or do something that would make me go off, or maybe it's just me cause i have limits on what i can and cannot eat or do ?? Mahalo....

Hi Christine, Hope what you are doing continues to work for you and maybe one day like some people I have heard about it becoming just a background noise that you only hear if you listen for it. Continue trying things you read on here. All those supplements they try to sell us for T on the internet are scams as usual. Just wish my doctor hadn't tried the Zoloft on me, I was handling it all so much better before it caused mine to really spike. Good luck, try to stay positive and keep posting.

      Hi Tim,
I'm new here too and I get the frustration of others not understanding what your dealing with. I actually found a site one day that played the many sounds that tinnitus can make. I found the one that resembles mine and played it for my husband. He was shocked. He Said, I dont know how you are dealing with that, it would drive me nuts! He gets it now at least a little bit. On the days it's a bit louder or difficult to deal with I just say "hey I'm having a difficult day, please be patient." That may be a bit more difficult for a guy but maybe if you can share with her what it sounds like to you, she might get a better understanding. Just a thought.
I've got a friend that will ask me if it's still there ( as if I don't check a billion times a day), when I say yes, she says STILL? I want to clock her one but people really dont know or understand. I wish you well.
I'm new as I said and I'm just so glad I found TT, it's already given me hope and a place to go,where they get what I'm going through.
