How to Cope with Pulsatile Tinnitus? Can You Get Used to It?

Can pulsatile tinnitus sufferers describe how they deal with it? I have had mild tinnitus for the last 9 years and in 2012 my pulsatile tinnitus started after hair transplant surgery. It went away in 5-6 days.

I was able to only hear blood gushing through my right ear when I bent down or moved in certain direction. Overall it didn’t bother me at all.

For the last 2 months I have been going through lot of personal problems. I am sure I am super stressed out but I am not really feelings stress (may be internalizing it).

My pulsatile tinnitus has increased a lot! It bothers me when I go to sleep. It’s mostly in my right ear. During the day it seems to be gone but it comes back at night.

If this becomes permanent... How do you guys deal with this? I can sleep when my regular tinnitus spikes but with pulsatile tinnitus, my life might become hell.

Can you get used to pulsatile tinnitus? Please advise.

 

You shouldn't get used to it, it's curable and also can indicate something more serious. The vast majority of times it is due to a vascular cause. A dural arteriovenous fistula or stenosis or narrowing of a vein, there are other causes as well. In my case, mine was cured with surgery, but it was just a symptom of something much more serious and life threatening. You should NEVER ignore PT without having it evaluated by a proper specialist. I can never have MRI because it’s way too loud for me.

Is a CT scan loud?

 

No, they are silent. But you're getting exposed to radiation needlessly. I have tinnitus and I've had numerous MRIs without issue.

 

I tried to have a knee MRI where my head was out and I could not handle even that sound!

I am almost 100% sure I have PT because of my tinnitus (but again you never know).

My PT is not bad and so far it has not bothered me during the day time.

No one has replied to my questions.

I have noise Induced tinnitus so loud noises cause big spikes. There is no way I can handle a head MRI.

I just wonder about people who have constant PT. What is their life like and can they cope with it?

 

I tried the MRI wearing two sets of plugs and it was still too loud. I had to yell for them to get me out. They ignored my first 3 yells.
Ive had pt since 2016 and I kinda like it.... it doesnt bother me AT ALLLLLLLLLL. At first I just became like a wild animal, and hid in silence for 6mos. Actually I was resting my ears.
PT is a Very normal part of life imo, I did get use to it. If its not killing me, I will keep it and skip surgery. My PT gets loud too, over my head loud, its all over the place. Sometimes it goes away and I have to listen to the low eeee.
