It is promising and definately on it`s way ... this topic has been discussed earlier last year and the people doing this project you can find here http://hearinghealthfoundation.org/

They claim to have a cure in the next 10 years ... and they said this a couple of years ago so, count down is going ...

“10 years” = we are cockblocked, but sure enough in 10 years we will all be driving flying cars and there will be a golden road to success thanks to amazing technology. Sorry, couldn't resist :D that paper was the best thing this year.

Yeah I wouldn't take it! - if you read however they can place it to get the exact frequencies that are lost. So not only help deafness, but totally clean up any frequency loss. Hope they speed this one up. By all means buy some and test out on some mice mind...

The acoustic trauma WAS fresh but it completely destroyed the hair cells. It regrew. So its not focused on say, nerve regeneration where they can reform incorrectly over months of sound deprivation - so the fact it was new, I would say in this case doesn't matter. Hair gone. Hair regrows, being the key focus. Which is already a miracle. Its not for quick tinnitus / noise damage prevention ( I hate those where they have this wonder drug but you need to take in 48 hours from noise damage - as if that will help anyone)

Certainly maybe quicker than stem cell work... I will try and contact the guy and get an update. But it is exciting, more so for the totally deaf out there.

But was just an FYI given the drug is available for any Scientists or people that know their chemistry. Its pretty exciting. Ok 10 years... but ive had mine over 10 years and recently added another +10 decibels to an already horrific noise level of right ear T. As our hearing gets worse with age (im 36) so will the T... so if this works, and can stop my T from getting worse with further frequency loss with aging, great. As I can not mask my tinnitus, its there even by a motorway, loud tube train, like many of you im sure. Its not the "only in a quiet room" one. I wish it was. I dread to think of the noise when im 56 or 66....

I warn everyone with Tinnitus - NEVER let the dentist use the high frequency cleaning tool. Sound goes through the bone right to cochlear - it must have wiped out all the half hairs I had left in there. I now have a dentist drill noise on top of a 5000 hertz multi tone, multi changing, nasty nasty ****er

      Cheers all
      :)

THe key problem is that the r&d is not seamless and not being expedited, this is adding decades to the search for a cure.To find a cure sooner we need:
      - seamless research
      - increased and targeted funding
      - faster throughput of research

The alternative is piecemeal research, lack of funding etc, ie the status quo

      This.

If we took all the groups who are independently solving problems and pitted them together, these problems would be solved in years rather than decades.

As it stands we basically bank on one of the groups "getting lucky" and hitting the right buttons to accomplish their goal.

Where can we found this drug at reasonable prices?
Because with listed prices for a full treatment you need 1.5 million euros.
I have found better prices in china but i think there is no reputatition for chinese companies.

I read in some article that the side effects may even cause Cancer (Over growth of Unwanted cells). So my theory is, get a bunch of stem cells, grow them in a dish, stick it in ears!:whistle:

cancer if you get it systematically.
But you can take it with intratympanic injection the side effects are fewer.
The problem i see is that the improvement in thresholds was slight about 8db
and only at medium frequencies not HF.
Also we have no data about T in this type of treatment..

No need to make some self experiments.
This drug is currently in an optimizing process in some labs. One of the biggest obstacles is to get hair cell regeneration in the adult cochlea. But researchers are very optimistic to get to this point. Ofcourse, there need to be many tests before this complicated process is applicable to human inner ears.
Don't forget the need of a well dosing delivery system. The Draper Lab is doing fantastic work with their micro pump.
Yes it's always slow progress, but there is a lot of promising stuff coming in the next few years...

I suppose one of their problems is about stopping the notch inhibition once the hearing has been fully restored? Else one would think things might get hairy in there... Unless the cell-dividing process has some natural stop like in birds. Maybe some other molecules are needed for that one...
