Relationship Between Cough and Tinnitus

Has anyone ever experienced any relationship between cough and tinnitus? I find it odd that no one mentions it on the internet, however, in my experience, tinnitus has a very strong relationship with cough. On "very clear throat" days, I hardly hear it. "Throat congestion" days it's more audible. Again, cough subsides, T reduces.

I haven't seen anybody make this observation on the internet so wondering is it something specific to me?

 

Ive suspected that my seasonal allergies that causes post nasal drainage, dryness and irritation in the throat to cause a sore throat and possibly irritate Eustachian tubes resulting in increased T.

 

Cough is probably not linked with T but nasal congestion yes. Cough and nasal congestion go often hand in hand.

 

Does coughing make tinnitus worse? I'm not aware of having COVID, but something irritated my throat today and I went into a coughing fit, which felt unpleasant on my ears.

 

My best guess is that any irritation in the nasal passages (including your throat) may make tinnitus a little more severe - not so much the cough, but what triggers the cough. Pretty much what people mentioned above.

Look up Arnold's Ear- Cough Reflex - https://www-iflscience-com.cdn.ampp...you-cough-when-you-put-something-in-your-ear/. It has to do with the Vagus Nerve. Not sure if it is related to tinnitus. As others said - cough, sinus/nasal/throat problems, and tinnitus are certainly related.

 

How is post nasal drip, cough, or anything screwing with the ET cause T? Sorry new here and trying to get answers. I went to the drs a few times in the last few weeks for ear pressure, weird crackles in my ears, and an ear infection....I just got This “tinnitus” about a month ish ago...
