      Dear Forum Members,

Last week of September I got Tinnitus after having a perforated eardrum obtained by Trauma, hit against head. The eardrum has healed but the Tinnitus, hissing sound in the left ear remained, but gradually lowered over time. Now sleeping in at night becomes easier.

However since I have a couple weeks left in the acute phase I seek to try out some treatments.

      Treatments tried or busy with:
      • 5 infusions one with cortisone
      • over time took 30 Gingko 120 MG tablets
      • took naftilong 200 MG (bloodflow increasing meds) three times a day for circa 6-8 Weeks
      • alchohol free beer almost every day
      • started prednisolon cure wednesday (cortisone in tablet form)cure will last 12 days in total
      • Almost every day a magnesium supplement not exceeding 400MG sometimes just 100MG daily
      Treatment in consideration:
      • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.....
This last treatment I am quite sceptic about as here in Germany it is tremendously expensive and success seems to be a relative thing..

I really hope someone can give me some advice or opinion here on this forum what to do next!
I will greatly appreciate any help and look forward participating in this forum here in the future as well as contributing to combat Tinnitus!

      Thank you very much!

      Kind regards,

      Robb

I am so overwhelmed with all this scientific jargon, and i really don ´t want to sound disrespectful to anyone no matter how intelligent, or non intelligent that person might be... i hate to be a party pooper, but to me there is no cure, so stop trying to look for one it doesn´t exist!!! accept it, do what ever it takes to cope with it, but stop looking for a cure!! it is not life threatening, therefore it won´t have any funding, i´m only a month in and i already get it!!! get on with it,,, now that i no longer yearn for that over the night cure i´m just getting on with it... let´s face it, people on this forum post things like my t has increased and i can´t cope, and i think Awww a new t victim!!! NO!!! they say i´ve had t for 10, 20, 30 yrs and they still have problems, and talk about suicide!!! if you haven´t killed yourself after 5, 10, yrs or so of hearing that effing mind blowing sound, then it´s highly unlikely that you are going to do it at all!!! I´m already sick and tired of it, and i really can´t see me putting up with shit for the rest of my life!!!

      Hi Robb,
I have had a similar thing happen to me. I had a myringotomy a month ago and my ear has been ringing ever since. It's been constant. It has gotten alittle more quiet at times although I'm not sure if I'm just getting use to it or if that is what is known as spikes. I even think there is a possibility that the phenol that was used to numb my eardrum in the procedure got into the round window of my inner ear and damaged the cochlea hairs. It says that phenol can do that so I'm not sure what to think. I know the ent who did the procedure would never admit or tell me about the phenol even if he thought that was a possibility. I'm wondering if we can expect to permanently live with this tinnitus. I could handle it better if I didn't know what had caused it to happen. But knowing and not being able to do anything about it is frustrating. Not knowing if I have been permanently damaged or not is tough. I don't know what to expect as an outcome. The worst I guess. Do you think yours will stay or go?

      Hi Marie,

      Thanks for your reply.
In my case I try to remain positive by looking at the fact that current Tinnitus is because of neurological damage.
This neurological damage needs more sophisticated time and healing methods to improve.

That it can be improved I'm confident about it. As at the start mine was worse. So if it could not change it would have remained that way.
We need to be patient and wait for the first set of supressing drugs to be released.
So do I hope that people who have more extreme kind of Tinnitus will go greater lengths in trying out whatever kind of treatments available or discover things.

Good luck in your journey we keep in touch all best

      Hello Robb,
I'm basically in the same situation that your in. I had a myringotomy a month ago and my ear has been ringing ever since. I've thought that it might be the anesthetic that was used on my eardrum called phenol that has caused this tinnitus. I've read if it should get to the round window in the inner ear it does cochlear damage and also damages the cochlear hairs. The ones that they say cause tinnitus. So I'm not sure what has happened to me at this point. I'm hoping to get my hearing back once my eardrum heals and also to get rid of this tinnitus. I have read where a perforated eardrum can cause tinnitus

      Hi Again,
I was wondering if your tinnitus started immediately upon being hit or if it started alittle later. Do you expect it to totally go away? Has a doctor said anything to that effect? I don't understand how my cochlear hair got damaged by a myringotomy? Unless my theory about the phenol is correct. Do you think your cochlear hairs have been damaged? How is your hearing now that your eardrum has healed?

I forgot to ask you what the cortisone infusion is? Also how is your hearing now that your eardrum has healed? Do you think that any of the things that you have tried have helped in any way? Have any doctors told you anything about what to expect? Do you think that your tinnitus will gradually fade out? Since our circumstances are similar with the perforations of our eardrums and then getting tinnitus I thought whatever has worked for you might work for me. Your the only person that I have been able to find that has gotten tinnitus in this way Why do you think the tinnitus is sticking around after the eardrum has healed? Do you think that you have permanent damage to the cochlea hairs in the inner ear and if so, what do you think caused it? Is it normal for tinnitus to go up and down in volume intensity? So it doesn't necessarily mean anything when I say that mine has lowered in volume since it first began. I was just wondering if that was an indication that it might vanish eventually. I can't understand how a myringotomy can cause tinnitus although I know that it did because it was immediate upon him making the incision. I was still sitting in the exam chair. I can't hear worth a damn out of the ear so I know the incision isn't healed yet.

Last week of September I got Tinnitus after having a perforated eardrum obtained by Trauma, hit against head. The eardrum has healed but the Tinnitus, hissing sound in the left ear remained, but gradually lowered over time. Now sleeping in at night becomes easier.

      Hi Marie,

Within some weeks of your trauma it could be a good idea to get an infusion. But these are not proven to make any difference.

My hearing is fine. Doctors anwers are mixed: for now I need to give it time, but Tinnitus what we both have is a difficult to pinpoint condition so you can't predict etc.
Your first mission is to get the perforation healed without complications so as I did.

In your case please go to a different ENT, go to an other doctor.

@Robb. Wondering if your Tinnitus got better? I have just found out I have a very small hole in my left ear after a ear syringe almost 3 weeks ago. My Tinnitus has got better but still hisses quite a bit in loud situations. Hole has not healed yet it seems.

      Hi Peter,
It went from a consistent tone to a hiss as well. My tip prioritze healing of eardrum. The hiss is a good sign.
These kind of Tinnitus from ear drum perforation need time a lot of time, but I am with you write me whenever you like

All best and bless yourself its a hiss not a consistent tone

Seems to go away and come back for me at the moment. Anyway it seems the noise is driven by external sounds into my ear. And I know the hole in my ear drum has not healed yet due to the echo when I talk/rub my ear. Not sure if it will heal without surgery as progress has been slow this 3 weeks. Did not help that doctor could not find the hole. But its there due to the air pressure test they did on my ear drum.
