I've been living with debilitating tinnitus for over 2 years. It's like nails on a chalkboard! Along with it came a sudden hearing loss in my left ear and vertigo as well. I was first diagnosed with Minear's Syndrome, but then told it was Labrynthitis ( the difference between the two I was told is that Minear's is a fluctuating loss and labrynthitis is sudden loss that's permanent). It's the TINNITUS that's driven me insane. It's so loud it's caused migrane headaches. I cannot be around noise as it increases the sounds x 10 and deafens me! I attempted to go to a place that was noisy with earplugs in and the next day woke up with ringing in my right ear now. It's completely affected my whole life. I can't hear anything very well with being deaf and then trying to hear with the good ear over top of the sound so I've avoided any social gatherings and had to quit my job working with children. I couldn't take the chance of worsening the hearing in the good ear and the noise getting louder!!! I have anxiety daily. I miss my friends and going places. It's difficult and depressing to watch others enjoy activities that I once enjoyed. Earplugs help a little but I still can't socialize in any group setting and can't make out what people are saying. The dizziness is horrible esp at night. I don't know anyone else that has this and all the doctors continue to tell me is that there's no cure for the tinnitus and I can't wear a hearing aide because it just amplifies the sounds! Help!
