I wonder if you still have supporting cells when you have so called "dead regions" in your cochlea after a hearing loss.

When you believe in the theory of phantom pain and T, wouldnt hidden hearing loss with T need to be severe to profound?

I think that the loudness of the t is related to the number of neurons disconnected and excited and looking for the inner hair cells. My grand father was really deaf but didn’t t have tinnitus because his hearing loss was very gradual and he became deaf at 70 he didn’t have many auditory neurons left maybe, they maybe pretty much died at the same time than than his hair cells.

on the contrary there are a lot of young people with loud t and minimal hearing loss, they got this from a shock usually (acoustic or ototoxic) and I suppose that as they are young their neurons are very healthy and actively looking for the hair cells but those have been destroyed. It is of course an hypothesis but that s what would make sense to me to explain why some deaf people don t get t.

Interesting idea. In fact the age related hearing loss seems like a normal process to me but of course every shock to your body no matter what or where or at what age could bring you in a new (unwanted) health situation - like a stroke etc. after my hearing loss I had around one month no Tinnitus ... I really dont know!

The kidneys make a lot of trouble and he cant gain a lot of weight anymore so he is losing muscles right now. Which is normal for that age but it shocks you how thin he can be. So what we can do is just look that he doesnt get any infection. Narcosis is not possible with that age he wont wake up. He gets of course the best food I can buy but yeah I dont know one day is good the other bad comes in waves.

Well I think he is a fighter so we hope for another year with the CNI (kidney) diagnosis - there is no cure. 2 years said the doctor is maximum at his age and we have our first year over so we know its a countdown. I just hope the end goes fast while he is sleeping in the sun! But lets see he is strong :) Thanks a lot :)

        Aw.
Then I'm afraid I haven't got much concerning hearing loss. 3:

I didn't know one could lack progenitor cells.

Yeah me too but there was a posting in the frequency thread with a link to a reddit post where a frequency member/founder mentioned something like that. I am also not sure and I still hope its not true as hidden hearing loss can also reach 80db because the high frequencies can die easily. fingers crossed for frequency of course :)

Everyone will run for the first treatment but does this treatment exclude you from upcoming better treatments? Like a cochlea implant?
