H has taken my music - I'm pretty reactive T too. It has to be so low or it spikes. Benzo helped my H more than I knew. I got amitriptyline, but not taken, is it worth it?

Hey @James1977 , amitriptyline really helped my hyperacusis and my noise-induced tinnitus too. Search for my posts about my experiences. I can now listen to most of the music that was previously off-limits when my symptoms were at their worst around the middle of last year.

How does it help with your reactive T? Both H and RT are kicking my butt. How do you cope with having both of them?

@James1977 My tinnitus is only reactive around 5 days out of 7. On the 2 days when I can tolerate it, I'll put on some of the music I can't usually play. I try to be careful - I'll often use musician's earplugs as if I'm at a concert. Sometimes I'll hit a track that my ears just can't tolerate under any circumstances.

Plus the reactivity in general has reduced over time. Nine months ago I couldn't listen to anything other than soft chillout music, and even that could spike me. I worked my way up as my symptoms eased. Most people's hyperacusis does ease in the first year or so.

My T is super high pitch plus I have issues with high frequencies and white noises like the oven fan and refrigerator hum. I really don't know if I can make many more days with it. Do you any sensitivity to high frequencies too?

I do still have problems with plastic bags rustling, ripping cardboard and sellotape, pots and pans in the kitchen, supermarket trollies and bleeping checkouts. I always carry earplugs with me for such events.

Does these spike you or do some make a glassy sound? Last week a pressure washer motor gave me a high piercing spike. It took two hours to come down.

@James1977 I can get a spike or more likely ear fullness lasting up to an hour from plastic bag rustling. Up to a couple of days from a door banging or cutlery falling to the floor. My susceptibility to such incidents is gradually reducing thankfully.
