@Ava Lugo Plenty of young people having severe tinnitus as well. One of them would be me.

More and more young people are reporting severe and intrusive tinnitus which suggests that all of these earbud headphones, always accessible music and other media via mobile devices, etc. is having a seriously negative impact on hearing health. So I agree, severe tinnitus isn't isolated to older populations.

@Bill Bauer I appreciate you taking the time to answer. It's always the same loudness. At best it's a bit quieter in the morning. I just don't understand what I am doing wrong to get spikes. My environment is as quiet as it can be.

3M knew they were defective. Company to pay $9 million after allegedly selling defective combat earplugs to US military. The Minnesota-based 3M Company allegedly sold their dual-ended Combat Arms Earplugs, Version 2, to the military without disclosing defects that decreased the actual effectiveness of the hearing protection the device offered.

You are not necessarily getting any actual damage. However, it sounds like you are getting T spikes. To promote your recovery, you might want to do what you can to avoid all of the noises that you know have the potential to give you a spike. You will need to do this for the next 0.5-2 years. After that you will likely heal and will not be bothered by those sounds.

Have you been exposed to any sound that made your ears feel uncomfortable? You'll want to wear earmuffs around sounds like that, even if your brain is telling you that the sounds aren't that loud. Listen to your body.
