I have not had hyperacusis in a couple of years, but my severe tinnitus was also getting progressively worse. So far this has been the only thing that has worked to actually lower the noise. I still hear it 24/7 but its much quieter and for me that's like a cure. I am on 25mg. Studies say that some folks see greater relief from 50mg. Some people get relief from low dose 1mg to 4.5mg.

Looks like I may be eligible for Medicaid because I dropped down to part-time when my t / h got really bad and my income took a hit. I didn't expect this. I didn't think I was old enough.

I'll post on the Naltrexone thread after I see a doc. Wine has always taken the edge off my tinnitus, so I already know what I'm going to tell my doctor. "I've used alcohol to self-medicate my tinnitus, but I've quit now but still craving it."

Hottopic29 The cause was ototoxic drugs. I had terrible loudness hypercausis especially at the beginning where loud noises was like a pencil shoved into my ear. It eventually went away but I think that the large doses of taurine and NAC I was taking at the time definitely helped to modulate it. It has returned in the past when my tinnitus has worsened to some degree but it never lasted more than a couple of weeks.
